  3. @sebsch Either that or a link to the #gentoo or #nixos wikis... also thinking about daring them to give #tinycore a try 🤷‍♂️

  5. Fun little 20 minute lunchtime experiment booting this old vgnp11z umpc with #tinycore #linux ... the umpc has a hardware fault sadly but between random shutdowns Tiny Core Linux is working well and BLAZINGLY fast which has bever been said about these old sony #umpc!

  6. I think I've finally graduated from #linux college.

I've got an old Sony Vaio with 2gb ram and a piss-poor CPU. I tried everything on it. #openbsd, #alpineliux, #tinycore, #antixlinux.. but at the end of the day, it's just slow. So I settled on Alpine with no graphical session. I've been living in the TTY for about 2 weeks now and I gotta say.. who needs a GUI?

With #tmux as my window(pane) manager, I'm able to do everything I need it to.

  7. #TinyCore #Linux is stunning. Here it is running successfully on a 1999 Sony VAIO with a single 333Mhz Celeron processor and 128Mb RAM.

Getting it booted was no effort; burn a CDROM and boot from it. Setting up wireless networking using an ancient D-Link branded WiFi USB dongle was a different story, but I got it working in the end.

That's the #Dillo browser running in the foreground!

  8. And yes, just sent the 3.3.37 package off to - which is the last step of the process.

So that completes this 4 month release cycle. It would have been less but the monitor scaling feature of course turned into a rabbit hole.

But read the changelog if you are curious. It's long and thorough by design because it's the actual record of what changed, why, and what isn't currently doable. I use it often to find when why and how features are added or removed or changed.

I'm kind of proud of the image description I wrote. There are more photos at the link:

  10. @jk the reason there are different distros is they meet different needs.

    RHEL: corporate linux

    Fedora: unpaid dev for rhel

Arch: true rolling, minimal package changes from upstream

you are expert, want vanilla upstream, patrick v. BDFL

install once run forever. Really. Sid/testing semi-rolling

Ubuntu: swahili for "can't install debian"

26 MiB full OS install to RAM. Really.

    very groovy tech

    Mint: new user choice 1

    SLED/SUSE: Not rh, w/rpm

    And so on

  11. @futurebird
Love it, and would place "Marcel the Shell with Shoes On" and the "Tiny Chef" social media shorts firmly in the #tinycore cinema category.

  12. I will NOT stop trying to "make #tinycore happen"

    It is *going* to happen.

(The next big thing is a lot of little things!)

  13. @plsik

Did you know that there are ants who set up their whole colony in acorns? But they can't use fresh acorns... they need a weevil to hollow it out for them first.

    An acorn is prime real-estate.

  14. And before the questions overwhelm me, yes, just submitted the new tce package to Linux.

I am trying to do that as close to release as possible now to avoid forgetting to do it, which was my previous tendency.

And that's the last step of an inxi release. Now to see how long the next cycle takes to start. This past one was the longest before changes in many years, which was nice. But they do trickle in eventually. Sometimes trivial, sometimes less so.

  15. A brisk cool morning in the lovely South Bronx & the ants who live in the strawberry pot in our roof garden are moving slowly. (same same, girls) These are pavement ants (Tetramorium sp.) When I repotted this plant I saw their queen & managed to save & rehome her. I gave her a cricket leg, since then they have been thriving.

There was a violent thunderstorm and my sweet husband asked “should we bring the strawberry ants inside?🥺” But of course they are fine— they were made for this. #tinycore
