Found out this week that Spark AR Studio / Meta Spark is also being discontinued, along with third-party #Instagram augmented reality (AR) filters...

So far, the social #WebXR space has lost (as far as I know):
- #MozillaHubs
- #ThirdRoom
- #SparkAR / #MetaSpark

I'm still quite shocked and pissed off by this bad news : the layoff of the #ThirdRoom team and indefinite pause on the project, due to lack of funds ... : apparently the main funds providers are diverting their attention from one hype to another (metaverse to AI) while there are actual productive usecases for the tech developed already (but needs some brushing)
and @EU_Commission @EC_DIGIT @EC_NGI funds are totally not adequate to support this :/ what a waste 🥶 #vr #ar #metaverse #floss #libre

For now, I've taken a different direction: #webxr. Technologically, this is still in its infancy. But not only #MozillaHub and #Thirdroom-io go this way. I already introduced you to a #FOSS-#Beatsabber in WebXR: moonrider.xyz.

Anyway. Have now started yesterday with a small tutorial. I can really recommend it:

Habe erstmal eine andere Richtung eingeschlagen: #webxr. Technologisch steckt das noch etwas in den Kinderschuhen. Aber nicht nur #MozillaHub und #Thirdroom-io gehen diesen Weg. Ein #FOSS-#Beatsabber in WebXR hatte ich Euch ja schonmal vorgestellt moonrider.xyz.

You'll probably like what they do with #ElementCall and #Thirdroom. I see more brighter pastures for party 2D games rather than 3D in #Matrix though, and integrating the findings of Element Call in your game may be just that step forward! :rickhey2:

Loving the way you present it by the means of #Thirdroom itself with presentation overlay and explain that the only server needed is #Matrix! :rickhey:

That aside, I just hope it'll show more than repurposing Thirdroom for meetings in the future, because no amount of simulated physics and emopacks can supercede human interaction.

*Revisiting* more places is what'll make it more selling to me.

Testing after hacking on #thirdroom last night to upload our own VR world, we imported some elements but not the pictures and links we had on mozilla hubs, https://thirdroom.io is still very alpha but is cool to have the matrix rooms you are in and the people a "world" room voice chatting, I can see how this will be amazing in 6-12 months when it can do the same things hubs does #hispagatos #virtualreality #vr #matrix #fun

We added a TURN server to our matrix #dendrite server setup, so we can have WebRTC on the matrix VR #thirdroom I was able to upload a glb I made for Mozilla hubs and works! This is promising, no need to link a VR to matrix is all there already. They say dendrite was not supported, but I made it work with some nginx-fu :) #matrix #thirdroom #hackers #hispagatos #HackersGonaHack

#Matrix advanced in ways of chat protocol very much, you can even start #ThirdRoom or any audio/video call on top of it (they made recent progress towards collective P2P calls, essentially encrypted).
