  1. Albuquerque’s Sunport makes other airports look bland

Sometimes, we don’t realize what a special and unique gem we have sitting right in our midst until it’s seen in comparison with others. This has become increasingly evident with each trip taken via the Albuquerque International Sunport and was reinforced even more while recently flying between Albuquerque and Nashville.

I’ve always loved the Sunport here in Albuquerque because of its beautiful Southwestern/New Mexican decor. But when you compare it to other airports, the beautiful design, comfort, ease, and retail/dining opportunities really stand apart in favored of our Sunport.

Most airports have a similar utilitarian vibe that is rather drab and off-putting. The same terrazzo or polished concrete floors, the same uncomfortable plastic chairs, the same mundane walls, the same windows, the same, the same, the same.

Meanwhile, the Sunport is a glistening gem in the high desert with its adobe/Pueblo architectural design, it’s ceramic tile and brick floors, it’s oh-so comfy cushioned chairs at the gates and waiting areas, it’s enormous Native-American pottery along the entrance boulevard, and it’s New Mexican-focused retailers and cuisine. The Sunport is an instant breath of enchanting air to the weary traveler and greets you with a warm embrace.

By comparison, Nashville’s airport came across like so many other airports across the country — as rather sterile.  Something I did not expect in Music City.  Even at the information desk, all the brochures, guides, and maps are hidden beneath the counter. Meanwhile, and the Albuquerque Sunport, they are displayed with pride and offered as yet another welcome to New Mexico.

Throw in the artwork on display throughout the Sunport and on its property, the model airplane collection, and the friendly contingent of greeter dogs, and the Sunport sets itself a world apart from most other airports.

Maybe some folks prefer utilitarian sameness in their airports, much in the way some prefer fast food and chain stores. You know what you are getting and there won’t be any surprises.

Well…for this fairly-seasoned traveler, I will take the Albuquerque International Sunport and other similar airports that go the extra mile to make travelers feel welcome and appreciated any day of the week over monotones and blandness.

Kudos to a job well done, Albuquerque Sunport.

    Peace!

  6. finally got a chance to see the remodel of the #abq #sunport which brought some nice improvements to the small airport.

but also very excited to see the #art of my friend #cactuseddie on display - a wall #painting of a #cactus that was saved from a remodel of a downtown #brewery . i like that it still has the electrical outlet in place.

  11. Slowpoke Ferry to Shodoshima

    https://www.setouchiexplorer.com/slowpoke-ferry-to-shodoshima/

When you go to Shodoshima (more precisely to Tonosho Port), there is a good chance you’ll hop on the Slowpoke Ferry.

    Which reminds me that :

I haven’t been to Shodoshima in far too long.
I don’t think I have ever ridden this ferry, at least, not since it’s been dedicated to Slowpoke.

  12. One of my fractals escaped into the wild and was spotted in the #Albuquerque #Sunport just inside from the parking garage, along with lots of other great works by the Sandia Heights Artists!

  13. The Sunport is one of the oldest #airports in the United States.
The first flight landed at what was then known as the #Albuquerque #Airport in 1928.
Although much larger, the modern #Sunport is in essentially the same location as the original airport.
    Anyone remember this?
