  1. Have you ever wanted to know how the pretty little cards get created when a web link is posted on social media? Thank some tiny bits of metadata embedded in the web page using Open Graph. @bart is here to teach us how to read and write this metadata, which will become very important in our continuing series on theming Jekyll for our statically generated sites.

  6. I just realized why I like Static Site Generators so much.

I'm able to publish the web without using a web browser.

That's kind of like being able to be a proctologist and helping people, but without actually ever having to see a butt.

    😂

  12. On the face of it I *really* prefer Astro's focus on strong typing through TypeScript and a lot of reasonable defaults. It makes for a great developer experience.

But between being bought by CloudFlare, people assosciated with the seeming to have problematic views (though this is not uncommon) and apparently using LLMs for the project I've become skeptical of the project and it's quality.

This is making me seriously consider Build Awesome (nee 11ty/Eleventy) for my static site generator needs. It seems like you have to do *quite* a bit of configuration to get it to work as well as Astro does by default.

On the other hand, maybe more explicit configuration is a good thing? Astro is very implicit.

  14. Still amazed at all the people who were really into #StaticSiteGenerators because they are so efficient and reliable, who are all into #AI now despite it being the least efficient option available and entirely unreliable.

  18. Jeff Geerling just discovered the world of static site generators, 🎉 and he wants us all to throw a #party 🎊 because he moved his personal diary from an enterprise behemoth to #Hugo. Apparently, maintaining a complex CMS for a blog was too much, but #blogging about it was *just right*. 📝🤔

  20. Eddie Tonkoi has taken over the mic and hosted an installment of Programming By Stealth! Listen and read along as he explained how he built a website for his wife’s books using the static site generator Hugo, GitHub, and Cloudflare for deployment and hosting. 22. I didn't expect I would ever migrate to another static site generator for my blog. Why would it matter which app generated a bunch of HTML files id the result looks the same?

Well, today I migrated to Zola because of the details. I was looking for ways to add attributes to external links and anchors to headers. Zola does it out of the box. Also it compiles SCSS, builds search index and does many more small things.

It's a great tool. Check it out: https://www.getzola.org/

  29. Alright, are there any #jekyll / static-site generator wizards out there that can help me with something I'm trying to do? It's related to pagination. I have multiple collections in my jekyll setup, i.e. "posts", "notes", "logs", etc... I have my blog posts paginated on my home page (on the root directory index.html page) using the v1 jekyll-paginate plugin. I want to paginate some other collections on other pages. For example, I have my "notes" collection listed out on the page /notebook (note here this is not on an index.html). From what I understand, the standard jekyll-paginate won't handle anything not on an index.html, and I haven't been able to grok how jekyll-paginate-v2 works.

Basically, I just want to be able to paginate other collections on other pages. How can I do this? Is there something custom someone has written? Can someone tell me how jekyll-paginate-v2 works? Is there a different way I can chunk up large collections so I don't have to load them all in on a single page?

    Thanks!
