I am so fucking sick of this. I've had this car for over a year stinking up my garage and I haven't even gotten the fuel pump to come on.
I bought a spare ECU, I sourced a replacement transistor, I soldered it on an ancient PCB, I've traced wires all the way from one end of the car to the next.
Fuel Injection was a mistake. I see why everyone converts these fuckers to carbs.

I finally got the ECU back together, so now I have to try and remember how to test it to see if the new transistor fixed it.
I should be getting 12v Ground on the #19 wire for a few seconds after turning the key.

I finally worked up the gumption to crack open my ECU.
The fuel pump relay transistor fell off as I was prying it open!
The wires have rusted where the insulator held moisture. Bad design Bosch!

Battery is at 12v, and I'm supposed to get ground from the #19 wire from the ECU but I'm getting 11.2v which I see at the relay as well.
Either this ECU has the same problem, or the issue is somewhere else.
I don't know what to check next; maybe check for a short in the ECU harness?

@[email protected] new ECU came in the mail today. Time to hook it up and see if the fuel pump relay circuit works. Cosmetically it looks worse than my old one, but if it works it works.

I'm getting 8v positive at this wire with the key on and the ECU connected, which is probably a bad sign. ๐
The shop manual says the ECU should be sending ground.
Either the ECU is fried or there's a short somewhere in the wiring harness.

After months of putting off installing the new fuel pump relay on my #vw #type3 #squareback, I finally got around to it.
Bad news: this was not the fuel pump relay. ๐ฉ https://mas.to/@schizanon/110605332390172934
Good news: the actual relay is still connected to the wires that run to the ECU and Voltage supply, so I don't have to search for those anymore!

After a couple months of sitting in the rain with the passenger door unable to close I finally got the #Squareback wedged into the garage!
Now I can take the door off and start prepping it to weld a new hinge on.
It'll also be a lot easier to work on the #fuelInjection without having to deal with the weather!
I just need to get rid of some stuff to make some more room.

I got my new fuel pump relay for my #vw #squareback, now I just have to find the wires that some monkey cut off to bypass the old one. The diagram shows wires running to the pump, ECU, voltage regulator, and auxiliary air valve. I *think* I know where all those are, and I have a test light so I can tell if they have voltage.

Still haven't put the new fuel pump on the #Squareback yet. I figured out what that weird patch wire was for, it's a bypass. There's probably a short somewhere in the original #wiring loom and instead of fixing it they drilled a hole in the firewall and ran a new wire directly to the fuel pump. There's even a twist at the fuse block for a cutoff switch. ๐ #vw #electrical #automotive #aircooled #aircooledvw #type3

Worst thing that's wrong with my new #vw #squareback is the passenger door won't close. The hinge froze and trying to get it free I think the plate that's welded to the car has nearly broken off. I'm gonna have to take it off and have someone weld it back I figure. Gotta do that before it rains any more, but I need to drive it to the shop so I'd better get it running. #aircooledvw

Made my first parts order for the #vw #squareback yesterday; just a gas cap, front turn signal lenses and some rubber seals for the engine lid. I don't want to put gas in the tank to flush it until I have a cap so it doesn't evaporate. I suppose I could go ahead and take the plugs out to see if they need replaced but the wires look new so I'm hoping it gets fire when there's fuel to spray. If not, rebuilding the distributor shouldn't be a big deal. #classicCar #mechanic #car #aircooledvw #type3
