Today I visited an old friend of mine whom I hadn't seen for over 25 years. Back in the day he was kind of a celebrity in the #aircooled vintage #Volkswagen scene of Germany, dealing rare parts for VW bugs and buses.
At his place, I found him crawled halfway into the engine compartment of this beautiful old T1 bus, cursing. The engine had just given up. Together we diagnosed the fault and repaired the bus.
Strange how some things just never change… 🤭

Usually I tag old VWs with the word 'survivor', but these two seem too far gone—especially the black one which has large rust holes in the roof.

I stumbled into #aircooled heaven today. 😻
It all started with some vintage VWs parked in a lot next to the road. When I stopped to take a photo, I found more cars which finally led me to the workshop of C.S. Beetle Service, a small company specialised in aircooled VWs.
Konstantinos, one of the mechanics, gave me a tour around the workshop, where several VWs are given a new life. I was so excited I forgot to take some pictures inside …

I've replaced this mirror/light three times over the years, and each new reproduction part seems to be a bad copy of the last copy. Out of the box, the parts don't even snap together. Admittedly, it was a crappy design to begin with. I am tempted to get out my soldering iron and make it more reliable.
