So, I'm learning the #sanshin . And today a group of us sang and played at the #OIST graduation ceremony where we accompanied the traditional dancers with Kajadefu.

Today is Sanshin no Hi - Sanshin day! There's live events, the local radio is playing sanshin music, and even our emergency broadcast system is joining in. And if you've been thinking of getting a sanshin, many places have big discounts this week.

Why today? Because today is March 4 - 3/4. Which is pronounced "san" and "shin".

We played #sanshin in front of an audience for the first time yesterday. And, well, there's room for improvement... But it was fun!

Our teacher had a workshop for a group of university students, and we helped out. We played three songs as examples of the types of music usually played on the sanshin.

But, the students *also* learned how to play Twinkle Little Star on the sanshin, and that was great! They loved actually playing a real instrument, and it was a blast helping them!

I got a new "ti-ga-" (body belt) for my #sanshin . It's a traditional #Minsah textile from #yaeyama , handwoven on Ishigaki. An instrument that looks better also plays better!

#Typhoon 6 is due to pass over #Okinawa main island on Monday and Tuesday.

Now, typhoons aren't exactly rare - we have a couple every year - but this one is likely to pass right over us. And I mean right over - the current prediction puts the path centerline right on top over our home.

It will be fine. Buildings and infrastructure is all built with typhoons in mind. But I foresee a couple of days spent indoors, watching the storm, practicing the #Sanshin and going through my Steam library.

We're having a #typhoon today. My workplace #OIST is closed for the day, and you don't want to go outside if you can avoid it.

Some quality time with my #sanshin and my #SteamDeck is in my near future, I suspect. Life could certainly be worse.

I got myself a #sanshin ! I've been playing #ukulele for some years, and when my workplace #OIST offered an introduction class I figured it's time to learn the signature instrument of #Okinawa .
