This evening, I have been drawing kanji that don't exist (that is, some of them exist in Unicode, some don't, most don't exist in normal Japanese fonts including the one I want to use). They will be used to render Okinawan sanshin music (工工四) which adds exotic radicals to indicate notes played up an octave etc. #okinawa #sanshin #三線

Today is Sanshin no Hi - Sanshin day! There's live events, the local radio is playing sanshin music, and even our emergency broadcast system is joining in. And if you've been thinking of getting a sanshin, many places have big discounts this week.

Why today? Because today is March 4 - 3/4. Which is pronounced "san" and "shin".

I got a new "ti-ga-" (body belt) for my #sanshin . It's a traditional #Minsah textile from #yaeyama , handwoven on Ishigaki. An instrument that looks better also plays better!
