Because the movies have become so famous for this stylistic device, you might think that #SergioLeone came up with the extreme close-ups of the duelist’s eyes, but hey, #SamuelFuller’s hard-boiled 1957 western #FortyGuns has them too. The cut from extreme close-up to long shot was and is pretty daring, but that is Fuller’s entire body of work. This particular scene is one of my favorites of all western scenes. Rewatching #SamuelFuller’s #ShockCorridor and #TheNakedKiss as a double feature. I realized again that the Lion of American Cinema must have had an enormous influence on #MartinScorsese. Both are among my favorite filmmakers and you can see many of Scorsese’s directing methods and stylistic options in Fuller’s films. I should watch more of Fuller’s films again, they are such interesting affairs. — #CineMastodon #FilmMastodon

It was sad to hear him at the very beginning mention some "forgotten" directors. Samuel Fuller was one of those names. Fuller delivered a body of work that, I fervently hope, is unforgettable, and a must for any film fan to check out.
