After initially signing up & having Marjoe Gortner cast, American International declined to release Starcrash when they saw the final cut. American International!!!

Roger Corman's New World picked it up & Starcrash became their biggest US box office to date.

#TIL two of my favourite 90s crime-with-comic-elements films, Miami Blues (1990) w/ #AlecBaldwin & #FredWard, & Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) w/ #JohnCusack & #MinnieDriver, had the same director, #GeorgeArmitage.

George also had a long history w/ #RogerCorman making sexploitation & blaxploitation films in the 70s. & TIL he passed away in Feb 2025.

Battle Beyond the Stars, made by Roger Corman’s New World Pictures in 1980, is Akira Kurosawa’s The Seven Samurai set in space.

One of the best of the post-Star Wars space operas. Proof that talent and imagination count more than money when it comes to making movies. Great fun.
