That's a great #RibbonSkirt! I managed to make myself a very rudimentary one, which was a personal commitment for 2023. Just wear it for #PowWow or #RoundDance. Also committed to attending several of each every year and supporting the vendors. -

This #RibbonSkirt has been a labour of love that took me the last year to learn about and construct. I used instructions from a book that #Métis artist #LeahDorion co-wrote and I spoke to her and the Elder at #EPL about protocol and cultural respect. It will only be worn for #PowWow, #RoundDance and similar ceremonies and celebrations. Big thanks to @GenOlivier who recommended using a glue stick to get the ribbons on relatively straight!

My #RibbonSkirt is complete after about a year of thinking/planning/sewing. There are a lot of little things that I will do differently if I make another but I'm quite satisfied that I have completed a passable garment, making sure to offer appropriate #Protocol and to have all of my materials smudged in advance. Lots of learning about sewing along the way. I constructed an enclosed waistband (wrong direction). Time for a #PowWow or #RoundDance. -

Seemed fitting that my first upload be Keewatinung's ACAB round dance, shot in the autumn of 2021, outside TPS HQ.

I love the space there for getting things done. Excellent setup for a cutting table, which was unfortunately where I was when the theft took place. I'm quite excited about the #RibbonSkirt and I'll return to the library to work on it tomorrow. There is a #RoundDance this Saturday and I'd like to have it ready to wear. Learning lots from the project. -
