6 #DSA candidates are elected to the House in a historic night for their movement

    Elena Moore, November 4, 2026

"In a historic night for the #DemocraticSocialistsOfAmerica , a record number of candidates endorsed by the organization and its local chapters were elected to the House of Representatives.

"The results grow the organization's presence on Capitol Hill, bringing to Congress a bloc of lawmakers who will now look to translate their electoral success into policy wins that push the #DemocraticParty further to the left.

"Six DSA candidates in reliably blue congressional districts have won their races, according to race calls by the Associated Press. They are Darializa Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez in New York; Melat Kiros in Colorado; Angela Gonzales-Torres in California; Donavan McKinney in Michigan; and Chris Rabb in Pennsylvania.

Their victories follow a fiercely competitive primary cycle, where DSA candidates rode to victory by championing economic populist policies like #UniversalHealthcare and #childcare, as well as more polarizing stances, such as abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement [ #ICE ].

"Throughout the primaries, candidates endorsed by the group were unafraid to criticize or break with Democratic leadership, challenging sitting incumbents or competing against establishment picks.

"That included #Kiros, who defeated Rep. Diana DeGette — a 15-term incumbent and member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus — in Colorado's 1st Congressional District in July. Just days earlier, #Chevalier delivered a major upset in New York's 13th Congressional District, narrowly defeating Adriano Espaillat, the influential chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

"On top of emphasizing a core value set aimed at bettering the #WorkingClass, many DSA candidates tapped into voter frustrations with the larger political system. Candidates swore off campaign donations from corporations and pro-Israel lobbying groups. They fiercely condemned the war in #Gaza and called for the U.S. to stop supplying #Israel with military aid.

"While the DSA's platform energized some voters on the left, it also became a prominent attack line for Republicans, who sought to paint the broader Democratic Party as too extreme and link more moderate candidates to democratic socialist figures like New York Mayor #ZohranMamdani and Rep. #AlexandriaOcasioCortez, D-N.Y.

"The DSA is not a registered political party, but with Tuesday's victories, the number of DSA members in the House will grow fourfold once the new Congress is seated in January. Currently just two sitting lawmakers — Rep. #RashidaTlaib, D-Mich., and Ocasio-Cortez — are members of the organization.

"It's a small, albeit growing coalition, but one that could complicate the legislative agenda of Democrats if they succeed in winning back the House. In a new Congress where Democrats have only a thin majority, the bloc could wield outsize influence. If Democrats can win a broader majority, their influence could prove more limited.

"The upcoming vote for House speaker may serve as an early test. If Democrats win the House, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., is poised to be elected the nation's first Black speaker. Currently, none of the incoming members with DSA endorsements has committed to supporting Jeffries."

  2. #2026Midterms — #DSA Makes History

    November 4, 2026

"From coast to coast, American voters have emphatically endorsed #socialism to oppose the corruption and barbarism of Donald #Trump and the #Republicans. They are ready to replace #oligarchy and #imperialism with #MedicareForAll, an arms embargo of #Israel, and the abolition of #ICE. With the largest number of socialists in Congress in U.S. history, we are ready to make their demands a reality.

"Our five nationally-endorsed candidates will ensure that the 120th United States Congress will have the largest bloc of socialists in Congress in its history. We are delighted to congratulate them on their historic election. From Detroit to Denver, our members organized their working class neighbors to vote for working class champions who will fight Donald Trump’s fascism with our socialism.

"This midterm cycle, DSA made history. Over 130 DSA chapters in 43 states supported socialist candidates and ballot measures all across the country, and won. We are poised to win at least 105 seats in elected office and ballot measures that demonstrate Americans’ desire for socialism nationwide. DSA has quadrupled our presence in the halls of Congress, sending a #SocialistBloc to DC that will fight to put people over profits.

"Our candidates come from the working class, and they will fight for the working class. They are groundbreakers like #JaelynnScott , who will become Washington’s first #transgender state legislator. They are #union organizers like #RobertLeVertisBell , who is #Kentucky’s first elected #socialist in state government since the 19th Century. They are relentless advocates for an end to the genocide in Palestine, like Congresswoman #RashidaTalib.

"Theirs were amongst the more than 300 candidacies and ballot measures that DSA ran nationwide. They inspired thousands of working class Americans to join DSA and organize around the demands of our #WorkersDeserveMore platform. With over 130,000 members, we’re the largest socialist organization the United States has seen since the 1910s – and we’re growing every day.

"Our members in office and the members who organized to elect them represent a core constituency to a potential socialist victory in 2028. Any politician that gives into the right wing’s campaign of anti-socialism risks keeping our country in the hands of fascists. We will continue to organize relentlessly for the abolition of ICE and the end of the #genocide.

"We are excited to lead the fight for working class issues by winning Medicare for All, an arms embargo of Israel, and the abolition of ICE. We will fight side-by-side with organized labor and community activists to achieve these goals. We all have a collective responsibility to resist and defeat Trump, his corrupt cabinet, the oligarchs that fund them, the Congress members who enable them, and the governors who mimic them.

"We extend an invitation to all Americans ready to reject the complacent center and the fascist right to join us in the fight. Join DSA."

Excerpt: "#DemocraticSocialists will soon be running three major U.S. cities, now that progressive Nithya Raman has defeated #LosAngeles ’ incumbent mayor.

"The Associated Press called the race for Raman on Thursday afternoon, with the Democratic socialist winning 52.1% of the vote and current Mayor Karen Bass, a Democrat, earning 47.9%, with 76% of votes counted.

"Raman celebrated her victory in a video statement she shared on social media. She went on to say that she had spoken with the outgoing mayor and thanked Bass for years of service to the community.

" 'Los Angeles, I’m deeply honored to be your next mayor,' Raman said. 'I love this city and I love its people and I cannot wait to get started on building a better future together with all of you. Thank you so much Los Angeles.'

"Raman, a City Council member and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, will be the first #AsianAmerican to ever lead California’s most populous city. Her victory is also the latest in a string of triumphs for the progressive wing of the Democratic party, notable among them Democratic socialist #ZohranMamdani ’s win in the New York City mayoral race last year. And on Tuesday, #JaneeseLewisGeorge — another member of the Democratic Socialists of America — was elected to be the next mayor of #WashingtonDC ."
