@guyjantic Bayes tied to methods in #QuantumComputation and elsewhere is where the citation for the article comes from. The statements in the article tell you nothing about that application or the challenges involved in adaptation to the quantum realm. Making vague statements with Bayesian terminology doesn’t do the subject matter justice. Read the article. Then read the cited paper. That will illuminate the problem

2/2…what the debunkers couldn’t foresee was that future practical #QuantumComputation technology would require macro scaling and amplification of quantum features to be of any use at all.
Now to be clear we still are lacking observations of “really big” macroscopic quantum states out there “au naturale” . #BlackHoles are likely really big quantum objects but try getting close enough to dust for prints. There are other candidates also. We get closer every day. It will still all be very weird

#QuantumComputation Dept: No specific sightings this time around, just the general reminder that #ScottAaronsons blog , #ShtetlOptimized is the usual goto for current QC papers and goings on. Also the accidentally on purpose knocking down of widely held quantum hucksterisms that often obscure the notion that quantum computation actually matters...https://scottaaronson.blog/

My personal opinions are:
- #SimulationArgument is a philosophical sleight-of-hand, smoke and mirrors. The field of philosophy is full of these on-surface convincing arguments leading to absurd conclusions. They are generally based on a subtle deceit amplified thousand-fold by logic.
- Paperclip maximization argument is criticism of #capitalism, not #AI.
- #Panpsychism is true, and simple cognition isn't rare or difficult in the universe.
- #QuantumComputation isn't necessary for cognition or #AGI.
- #EffectiveAltruists are trying to solve a non-linear moral control problem by looking at a wrong thing: Far future instead of the present. You can't assume #future trajectories conditioned on people behaving sensibly if you are yourself advocating for behaving irrationally. Your alternative model of #ethics screws up the premise for the future taken as granted. Analogous to: https://xkcd.com/989/
