#PortfolioDay !!!
I'm a British artist living in #Porto.
Theories of #philosophy of #memory inspire my #cyanotype #origami and #stitchwork creations.
Currently working on #Situationist International studies of cities and maps, and philosophy of cultural memory. Would love to collaborate with a #cartographer or #architect ...
Find more of my work here... https://alunkirby.com/
Thank you!

Experimenting with pattern layout. A new work about #culturalmemory.
It's made from 84 individual #origami #cyanotype images ( #metamorphogram ).
Combined they make new patterns and represent ideas of shared #memory, particularly of #Portuguese blue tiles ( #azulejos ).
Also, the connections they make show that shared memories are the building blocks of families, communities and cultures.
How fast can you fold orizuru?
I am making an installation which will use about 500-700 orizuru. Each is made from cyanotype coated tissue paper or rice paper. After a while they turn into pictures. They are #metamorphogram images. They will be hung in this form.
This is not a good origami paper, so I'm going at 20-30 per hour!

Porto people!
I am running a workshop in cyanotype and collage next Sunday, June 15th
It's in a beautiful place near Boavista, everything included.
See https://linktr.ee/piki.porto for all the details.
Thank you!
PORTO DRAWING CLUB!
I'm proud to be part of this project to establish a life-model drawing club here in Porto.
It will begin in April. The aims are to learn with and from each other, to practice regularly, share community, and have fun!

Outside at Serralves in Porto, a monumental kinetic sculpture, 'Horizontal' (1974), by Alexander Calder.
Inside, more delicate forms.

Brilliant exhibition of Alexander Calder kinetic sculptures, wire works and paintings at Serralves in Porto.
Calder's work is shown together with some by his great friend Joan Miro.
I've never seen his wirework pieces before. How the viewers movement changes their form is... wonderfully cubist.
This one dates from 1929.

Here's what a collage of all 30 units looks like.

Four potential compositions for the 30 cyanotypes that used to be a single origami form.
Should they become a collage or... revert to form?
Let me know which one works for you.

@karafuto Serralves is the place for Ai WeiWei and the Big Names.
Rua Miguel Bombarda is the street with all the independent galleries. Saturday afternoons are best - they are not always open. Visit CCBombarda for shops and a noticeboard of other art events.
Ponte Das Artes is a store in the centre with lots of high quality supplies esp pens, pencils, paints.
Montana Shop near Trindade has everything for spray painting. Very cool, source of info and a great cafe inside.
