Spent the day after the averted apocalypse folding a Fujimoto cube from an old map of Yorkshire.
Coated it with cyanotype chemicals beforehand, which is why it's green.
Paper is about 80 X 80 cm, cube is 20cm to a side.

I'm sending this out just as my flight is coming up over the Irish coast - we should be landing in Edinburgh within the hour. My son Tom and I will get at least 4, and perhaps 5 or 6 rounds in. But, we might have—as they say in Scotland—a wee bit o' weather! Hi Dave! LOL!
I never thought I'd see it come to fruition, but I was determined.I certainly won't let a little storm get in the way of a bucket list!
Look, I know I was going to stop posting about this, but not yet.
You might remember that back in March, I was in the thick of "Rotation Day"—the grueling first steps of twisting a spine that had been fractured in three places. I talked then about "engineering the outcome" and following a blueprint. I did the cardio. I did the heavy lifting. I did the work. I wrote about it in this post, with this image:
Today, the "blueprint" phase is officially over. The "Upcoming Reservations" are no longer abstract goals—they are the next 5 days of my life. If we are lucky, we'll get out for a round on arrival today, simply as a part of the process of staying awake!
I've learned a lot through this whole ordeal. Perhaps its that that we often spend too much time hoping for a "bucket list" moment and not enough time building the bridge to get there. If you are currently in your own version of "Rotation Day"—recovering from a setback, pivoting a business, or grinding through a tough project, keep your eyes on the calendar.
Because the future arrives for those who do the heavy lifting to meet it.

В предыдущих двух статьях я разбирал K2Node - как устроены ноды Blueprint изнутри - и Blueprint VM : байткод, опкоды, стековую машину. Следующая на очереди - Reflection: UClass, UFunction, FProperty и вся система метаданных, на которой стоит движок. Готовясь к ней, я решил, что лучше всего разобраться в теме поможет практика. И тут подвернулся юзкейс: мне нужен был способ сконфигурировать вызов произвольной функции в редакторе и выполнить его в рантайме. Без хардкода, без кодогенерации, без десятка одинаковых обёрток. Так появился FunctionHandler - плагин для UE 5.6, в котором пригодилось всё, о чём я писал раньше: CustomThunk'и, ExpandNode, работа с FFrame и MostRecentProperty. And so with that, it was 'rotation day' yesterday!
What is 'rotation day'? It's the first day of exercises designed specifically to get my previously injured spine ready for the mechanics of the golf swing.
I've done the cardio. I've done the work to get the core back in shape. I'm doing the heavy lifting. I've put in the work. Here's 30 days of effort. I don't do this to brag; I share it to say, "I've put in the work."
(The workouts include walking - if I exclude that, I still had 28 solid days at the gym out of the last 30).
Rotation day involves doing a series of exercises that twist your body, torso, and spine.
All the things you couldn't and shouldn't do in the early stages of an L1 to L3 spinal fracture.
As I was doing this routine yesterday, I kept reminding myself that to make a bucket list item work, you've got to put in the work. I can't hope to show up in early April, swing a golf club after this situation, and expect a great round. I've got to put to work the muscles that were not put to work, and some of which were battered and bruised in the fall, to work.
On April 6, I'll tee off at the Old Course.
Pure bucket list.
You can't get to a bucket list if the potential for the bucket has been interrupted by circumstances.
You've got to push through the circumstances.

I am quite positively surprised how much faster (both, performance and development) #UnrealEngine scripting in #AngelScript is, compared to #Blueprint.
Also, it's was more readable than both, Blueprint and C++, so I think it's an alternative worth checking out.
The only drawback I see up to now is that it needs its own Engine Fork, that sadly is not easily available as .patch files.

For a research project we are implementing a pure (as in pure-functional) alternative to #UnrealEngine #Blueprint, that generates C++ code (and uses Live++).
Since this project was started by a functional-programming-nerd (not me), we went with mapping the graph to a monadic bind chain.
It's shocking how much of an imperative language can be built with nothing more than a State Monad and a key-value store.
Branching, mutability, loops,... Whatever you need, the State Monad has you covered.

A less realistic, but maximally fun SSTO.
These tilt-engines are way more powerful and efficient than what I usually use in KSP, to the point where they probably are unrealistic af. That’s why I didn’t even bother with the TWR or dV this time. But having one part that can do a tilt engine is SO nice. If you want it to be a bit more realistic, I guess you can lower the thrust limiter.
Its very power hungry, but it comes with an internal nuclear reactor which has a heatsink slapped on to it. This way it can run for quite a long time before running out of juice. Some capacitors also help extending that time. The cargo bay doors can also act as radiators if opened.
The COM is very carefully balanced so this thing is stable both in horizontal and vertical flight, the RCS is centred and the docking port aligns with it reasonably well. (you can dock it to the front of a mothership and it won’t make it spin out of control. If you want to use the engines to propel the other ship though, you might spin)

How fast can you fold orizuru?
I am making an installation which will use about 500-700 orizuru. Each is made from cyanotype coated tissue paper or rice paper. After a while they turn into pictures. They are #metamorphogram images. They will be hung in this form.
This is not a good origami paper, so I'm going at 20-30 per hour!
