We snatched VICTORY from the jaws of DEFEAT! I'm not talking about the England footy team playing DR Congo, but about last night's #LifeDrawing... for the 1st time ever the model didn't turn up. Argh! So we drew each other (clothed, obvs).
We each posed for 10 minutes & and now I have a new respect for all life models! I'm not used to #drawing people with their kit on so it took me 3 attempts to draw anything I was vaguely pleased with.

#LifeDrawing log (24 Jun): the UK has a heatwave at the moment and just 14 brave souls made it to the studio on the top floor of the building. The instructor hadn't overexerted himself getting out chairs either, so everyone helped themselves and it gave the room a slightly more casual feel. For the model's benefit the longest poses we did were fifteens, then cooled down with some 2 minutes in the time generated from that.
Chef's special were some exercises that are apparently very common in art school but that we haven't done in these sessions before: one five-minute with just the non-dominant hand; one five-minute holding the pencil right at the top, and the ten minute was a blind contour drawing. Very fun!
I had a really good evening, actually. The exercises kept me loose between the ones and the fifteens, and my long ones always benefit from that.

I forgot to write up last week's life drawing so you get two posts this week.
#LifeDrawing log (17 June): I went with friends and it was fun to see our different takes on the same pose from nearly the same angle! The model was the one I had in my very first in-person life drawing session too, which feels very apt. Chef's special was to imagine the model was a glass jar and a fly was buzzing around inside, and to draw out an imaginary path of the fly. I like this exercise, I like how it gives a nice amount of form to the overdrawing afterwards.
