Und es fängt mit der produzierenden Industrie an, die Produkte herstellt, welche neben einem Kunststofgemisch schon vom Produktdesign her auch eine geringe Verwendbarkeitszeit haben.

There is a date for INC-5.3! But, it is only for "administrative purposes with the focus on election of officers including for the position of Chair". It will take place in Geneva on 7 February, immediatedly after the first session of the ISP-CWP (Intergovernmental Science-Policy Panel on Chemicals, Waste and Pollution).

As with other UN negotiations, such as the annual COP meetings on climate change, the U.S. and its allied petrostates continue to block any significant progress despite a majority of countries seeing the need to rapidly shift off fossil fuels and their byproducts, such as plastics.

UN #Plastic Treaty talks near break down. As with climate change these processes are insidious, they require knowledge and commitment to reverse. The science is irrefutable, the world is crying out for a legally binding treaty, courage and evidence based policies required. https://shorturl.at/W3B3P #ClimateChange #PlasticTreaty #StandwithUkraine

In August, representatives of the world’s nations will meet in Geneva, Switzerland, to hopefully finalize a U.N. plastic treaty.

But negotiators remain far apart, with an overwhelming number of nations wanting a legally binding treaty that limits plastic production, while a much smaller number want a voluntary agreement focused on waste management.

Concerning the reporting around the #PlasticTreaty in Germany the original source of the materials and hence the problem #fossilfuels was left out. The promoters of recycling and against reduction are also those peddling that green growth can avert the climate crisis

“More than 100 countries want the treaty to limit production as well as tackle cleanup and recycling, and many have said that is essential to address chemicals of concern.

But for some plastic-producing and oil and gas countries, that crosses a red line.”
