  1. Hot week means most #coffee deliveries for #Sheffield and surrounding area done by Royal Mail and Feral Express.

But personally just under two hours on #ebike for the week doing just over 35km is the way to travel. Cars are too hot - outside is the natural air-conditioning and doesn't require two tonnes of metal to do it.

Note: God-speed to all the delivery workers out there, without you, we would all struggle in this modern world.

  2. Second time volunteering at a #Waverley Lakes #Parkrun today. Did pre-event set up which allowed me to run it too.

I did feel like a bit of a spare part as it was set up quite quickly by people who knew what they were doing but I will probably become that person one day - learn by doing/watching.

No PBs as carrying an injury right now but a fun morning.

  3. @Pionir Would not recommend swimming in there. This is old coking works (from Battle of #Orgreave fame) so although I've seen fish and other wildlife, it's only for the hardcore species.

  4. With #Orgreave in the news, we’re very proud to live nearby. Regularly go over the bridge and graffiti of #Scargill and Tories Out is still there.

Enquiry is long over due. The house we live in is the first time non-miners have lived in it and there are still many people round here that suffered from the police stitch-up.

  5. The amount of police officers that had no insignia on their epaulettes was staggering at #Orgreave There was a general consideration they were members of the army dressed up.

  6. Mad scramble by #uk government to get coking coal to keep scunthorpe steel works going. It used to be made in the UK at #Orgreave until it was shut down in 1990, which was made possible after thatcher crushed the mining strikes by building a police state to terrorise striking workers and brutalising them at the battle of Orgreave.

Turns out the miners were right about everything that would happen if the strikes were broken.

  7. "The bloodiest day of the 1984 miners' strike was orchestrated in Downing Street, the senior legal adviser to the Welsh government has said."

  8. Today (18th) is the 40th Anniversary of The Battle of Orgreave - when striking British miners clashed with police. At the time the media was more than complicit with Thatcher's government and the police narrative, later it was shown how the BBC had edited footage to suggest the miners attacked the police first.

  9. @therightarticle there are plans to open a new railway station there. It should be named #Orgreave in memory of the battle.

  10. The Battle of #Orgreave was not about coal. It was about power, class, and the right to life. thecanary.co/editorial/2024/06

  11. 40 anni fa la vittoria del neo-liberismo. Con i manganelli, non nelle aule universitarie. 1984, la polizia inglese attacca i minatori in sciopero nella "battaglia di #Orgreave" - Me.Dia.Re. Mediazione, Dialogo, Relazione me-dia-re.it/1984-la-polizia-i. #politica #accaddeoggi
