    I'm still cross about it. I'd add to the mix that NSea oil revenues could have helped a transition from coal by retraining and resettling miners and seeding new industry rather than just doing the Thatcher abandonment of communities previously reliant on coal mining.

  7. Here is the book I referred to.
    It's a great account, full of detailed descriptions of events and protagonists with astute political analysis. Resolutely socialist and pro-NUM, but not uncritical.
    It explodes some popular myths, e.g. that the strike wasn't decided democratically, that it was Scargill's decision to strike, etc.
