Someone at Meta remembered that #OpenGraphProtocol exists.

An update was made in June - https://github.com/facebook/open-graph-protocol/commits/master/

Which adds Payment link metadata - https://ogp.me/#type_payment

Nothing about #WebMonetization, sadly, but good to know the project isn't completely abandoned.

I've managed to get a basic bot posting to #Threads.
Only problem is, the #OpenGraphProtocol images aren't being picked up.

Any ideas why?

ActivityPub servers which present proper #OpenGraphProtocol tags *already* show as QT.

It's right there in the page's source code but only (partially) exposed in the UI.

Something that annoys me (true of fedi as well) is that embedded images from other websites don't get embedded with #AltText. Sure, a lot of images on the web are uploaded each day without this feature. But many are, and #OpenGraphProtocol supports a property called "og:image:alt" that is actually supposed to be on every #OGP image. By doing this it cuts down on a lot of repetition while improving #accessibilty for those who need it.

The «official» #OpenGraphProtocol (#ogp) documentation site https://ogp.me is still (2023-02-17) down. It can off course still be read at https://web.archive.org/web/20230215053250/https://ogp.me/ but are the responsible people for the site gone from #Meta?

@drdrang @Edent `opg.me` is owned by #Meta / #Facebook (?) and they have taken it down? #opengraphprotocol is used everywhere, and the most official site describing it is down.

This would have involved creating new #OpenGraphProtocol tags. Hencebmy post at https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2022/11/is-open-graph-protocol-dead/

Could have been really great for two-way content flow. But looks like another thing they've killed off.

I wrote that blog post because I was doing some work with a different social media site. They were looking at improving how oEmbed works.
I guess all that work has stopped now…
