  1. @PogoWasRight that public disclosure felt kind of gross to read knowing they actually consulted with the #OPCC and followed the laws on disclosure

I can see the logic on not directly contacting individuals because of the sensitivity of the services they provide, and it looks like they did contact affected organizations - but the statement really downplays the severity and I strongly dislike Canada’s rule only to notify if the “breach creates a real risk of significant harm” (which is remaining untouched in our updated privacy bill #BillC27)

If someone needs my consent to collect & use my email address, I want to know if they lose it

Also, their legal threats defintely smells of a SLAPP, I’m sorry to see that get thrown at a solo blog like yours and eat up resources

  2. @PogoWasRight Homewood Health is subject to Canada’s #PIPEDA and if Clop’s claims are true they’ve “acquired a lot of personal or protected health information” Homewood would need to report this to the Privacy Commissioner (#OPCC) and all effected individuals

However, the law is preeettty loose on timing, the disclosure is to be given “as soon as feasible” and they only have to disclose publicly if it’s not possible to directly contact individuals

Best bet is they notify patients eventually & the media gets a hold of that, but sadly even our privacy legislation on its way gives no urgency to breach notifications #BillC27

  3. Join WWF Cities on April 19 for a webinar on how individual cities can measure their emission reductions and advance their climate action work.

  4. Canadian consumers deserve more EU like internet protections/rules. E.g. default option for use of cookies etc s/b "minimum required" and NOT "accept all" with effort to find/manage settings.
I'm not expert and this toot probably isn't worded nor researched properly but getting it off my chest while it's on my mind
