@rexbron @dyckron It is actually worse. The wholesale price TSI and others are complaininga bout is only for the last mile, the fibre between the house and the central office. The #CRTC mandated wholesale price for this is higher than many of the Bell Canada and flanker brand offers for full retail Internet access.

The #CRTC has revoked, at Rogers's request, the network broadcast licence for Hockey Night in Canada, in light of the end of the CBC/Rogers NHL agreement https://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2026/2026-178.htm (The licence was required because the deal gave Rogers de facto control over CBC TV during those broadcasts.)

2009 throttling decision:
Review of the Internet traffic management practices of Internet service providers
https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2009/2009-657.htm2017 "no zero rating" decision:
https://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2017/2017-104.htmNote: after 2009-657 Bell continued to throttle individual apps but as it upgraded its network the new routers were too fast for its throttling boxes, so Bell took it out). But there were also threats of filing a Part 1 challenging their non-neutral selection of which packets to throttle.

PIAC never filed a stay, filed their Part 1 with #CRTC
and when I filed mine, PIAC filed a procedural letter requesting CRTC reject my submission, accusing me of plagiarism.PIAC was so widely criticised for its procedural request that it managed to have its letter pulled from the record, making me look like I was responding to imaginary letter that wasn't there.
Had PIAC succeeded, it would have had sole reply to all submissions (Part 1) and made more money.

When Vidéotron launched its "Musique Illimitée" service, I annouced on Twitter I would file a Part 1 due to "net neutrality" concept violation. (27(2) undue preverence in Telecom Act).
An hour of two later I got phone call from the PIAC lawyer suggesting we file at same time, then insisiting he needed to file first because they were to file a "stay" with court to first stop the Videotron service. I agreed

yeah ! @tamir_CA would be proud of me ! The broadcasting people accepted my submission on the 29th (Monday) which had been due on the 25th (Thursday) despite my having no excuse other than simply having forgotten the deadline.
What is interesting in this public consultation is that it is just one cycle of submisisons and replies are not (yet) planned).

In 2026-43: "i. When a subsidized device is not provided as part of the contract, a service provider must not charge an early cancellation fee."
The decision also changes the Wireless Code with regards to canecllation fees. In the past, certain contracts without a device were allowed early canccellation fees. Now these are no longer allowed.

"… after the CRTC in an early June ruling slapped another 10 percent levy on foreign streaming platforms on top of an interim 5 percent obligatory expenditure on homegrown Canadian content production, Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, told the regulator to scrap those plans to avoid angering U.S. President Donald Trump".
"That has left the Canadian government to offer up another $600 million in annual tax payer support for Canadian film and TV production rather than carry through on plans to get American media players to foot the bill".
What was that Carney used to say about #ElbowsUp, again?

Trivia:
Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas originally created the characters Bob and Doug McKenzie in protest against government requirements for "identifiable Canadian content" in domestically produced television programming. The skits, as an "SCTV" (198) program "The Great White North" featured two dimwitted brothers who combined as many negative Canadian stereotypes as possible.
