#OldWorld feels a lot like Civ IV, with some added concepts on top of it. Turns out the studio is lead by the main designer of Civ IV: https://spillhistorie.no/2026/04/22/big-interview-with-the-people-behind-old-world/
Turns don't flow quite as smoothly (so far), and there are some rough edges: visualizing my available options for building improvements with a worker - outside of the "recommended" ones - is not intuitive, and some bonus wording is confusing (when I get a bonus for units "killed", does that means mine, my opponents', or all?).
All the same, I'm already having a bit of the same "just one more turn" feeling just working through the tutorial, so I have little doubt I'll spend many happy hours with this #game.

I started playing #OldWorld: https://www.gog.com/en/game/old_world
First impression: Ooh, they have an "explain concepts while playing an actual game" tutorial, that sounds a lot better than the tired step-by-step thing!
Second impression: Eep, what happened? I thought I clicked on the settler unit, but it seems to have built a city already? I didn't want to build it there, I wanted to look around a bit first to pick the ideal spot! => quits and moves to the regular tutorial.
Turns out you can only build cities in small specific regions - but do have some choice of where to place them exactly, and I hadn't actually placed it, but the UI showed something which seemed like a placed city. I guess I need the handholding of an oldfashioned tutorial in my games after all.
(Actual first impression was *crash*, likely due to blocking the game with the firewall but the OS reporting that internet is available, which is a combination quite a lot of #Unity #games have an issue with, so all the above after unplugging the ethernet cable and trying again.)

We got a new game announcement which will probably interest quite some civfanatics! Dale, co-developer of #OldWorld and long-time civ fan is now working on his own independent game, called #Imperialist . As you can guess from the context and title, this is a turn-based 4X game, set during the age of imperialism. You might now be thinking about "Colonization", but this game is not about creating a new state in the old world, but forging an empire which spans the the whole world. The graphics have retro flair though and are definitely aimed at long time civ fans, and for who remembers it also the "Imperialism" sries! Otherwise you will get more intricate supply chains and more advanced diplomacy with friends and foes, making this game a potential new candidate for the "one-more-turn" syndrome at the end of this year.
The game is scheduled for release in Q4 2026. You can find the Steam entry here https://store.steampowered.com/app/4351070/Imperialist/ and discuss it with us here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/imperialist-exploit-the-new-world-to-control-the-old.703219/ .

I've been working on a new Old World army, with some Chaos Warriors. I've christened them The Cult of the Welcoming Death, and their sign is that of a carried skeleton. One of their champions even carries the skeleton of a Sigmarite Warrior priest. #paintingWarhammer #nerdlings #oldWorld

The team of Old World has given an interview to Norwegian website spillhistorie.no. In this interview the team talks about various decisions for Old World, like how they decided upon the setting, the introduction of the mortal leaders, and the challenges they had with publishing the game. They also talk more deeply about the order system and advantages of not having actions tied to units, and the relationship of Old World to Civ and Paradox games.
