  11. FROM THE OLD POST OF KAMLOOPS, THE HBC MEN MADE their way south, through the Grand Prairie on their way to #Okanagan Lake and Fort #Okanogan, on the Columbia River. In this leg of their long journey south they rode through a beautiful open grassland with some patches of trees. 16. #KinkaidCreekFire #Okanogan #WAwx

    Jaimee Whitfield, Reporter
Aug 5 at 1:06 PM EDT

    Quick Facts:
    Kinkaid: 221 acres
    Nanamkin: 92 acres
    18% containment
    Personnel: 233

    …Today:

On the Kinkaid Fire, crews will continue monitoring the eastern portion of the fire as it creeps down the hillside to an area where direct fireline can be built. On both fires, direct line construction will continue with improvement on existing dozer and handlines to secure the fire’s edges. Hose lays will be extended to support mop up activities occurring in areas with minimal fire behavior.

Transition: Northeast Washington Incident Management Team 2 will be handing off the fire to NW Team 3 tomorrow morning at 6 am. Team 2 would like to thank the Colville Confederated Tribes for their collaboration and assistance over the last few days.

Weather: Mild, dry and breezy conditions. High 77, Low 56. Humidity 24%. Light winds with gusts up to 17 mph in the afternoon.

    NO Evacuations and Road Closures

See the full update from Northeast Washington Incident Management Team 2 HERE.

  18. AT FORT OKANOGAN THE MEMBERS OF THE INCOMING BRIGADES left their boats and continued their journey on horseback, up the #Okanogan River toward #Okanagan Lake and #Kamloops. In 1826, Aemilius Simpson, who travelled in with the incoming York Factory Express, described Fort Okanogan. The man in charge of the place at the time Simpson visited it was Frances Ermatinger. I find this story quite telling of the kind of chracter that Frances Ermatinger was. nancymargueriteanderson.com/br
