AT FORT OKANOGAN THE MEMBERS OF THE INCOMING BRIGADES left their boats and continued their journey on horseback, up the #Okanogan River toward #Okanagan Lake and #Kamloops. In 1826, Aemilius Simpson, who travelled in with the incoming York Factory Express, described Fort Okanogan. The man in charge of the place at the time Simpson visited it was Frances Ermatinger. "Had a good breeze of wind and sailed the most of the day. The Wind though warm was a great relief from the scorching heat we experienced these three days past. Encamped in the evening a little above cleear Water River. A man from Okanagan met us in the evening with two horses from Fort #Okanagan.

(1) A very close friend who is a #gardener extraordinaire, #vermiculturist , super #composter & the organizer of many school gardens in #Okanogan county, has sent out an appeal for his friend, a #sustainable #food advocate in #Congo, who has had to flee his community under threat to his life. He has taken refuge in the UN HQ in Kinshasa. His story reminds me of the dangers progressives face around the world. We are helping him come to the US and hope to learn from him.
