Trumpeter swans on the lookout in K'ómoks estuary.

I used a telephoto lens and kept a respectful distance from them. I always do with wildlife. This is not about me getting the shot, this is about respecting wildlife. In this particular case, they spend the winter here so they need to eat and rest before they move on to their next destination.

Guess who's in town? Got a tip from a friendly neighbour that hundreds of Trumpeter swans were having a mud bath in the estuary. They're here for the winter.

This ridiculous Trumpeter Swan flew right over me today, and NO ONE ELSE LOOKED UP. The bird was headed north, away from both the lake and the river. Yeah...no idea.

Week two of my #arteveryweek resolution! Further experiments with #watercolor. I laid down white watercolor paint on white paper and it didn’t show. Then I realized I should use #maskingfluid. Ruined a paintbrush with the fluid application, but it kept the swan white. I also tore up the paper a bit using pencil when it was still wet. I love #Swans. The Trumpeter Swan Society has a wild breeding program at Bluffer's Park in Toronto and ship the offspring all over North America where they are endangered/extinct.
