Is always getting my feet knocked out from underneath me and having to get back up.#gratitude #love #family
Are the hands continually reaching down to pull me up.Plus a kickass OT therapist who ordered a bloody table to put together with me. I'm still debating about going to that appointment

Had my #autism assessment and it's interesting because they diagnosed me with autism but not ADHD, despite me having quite a lot of ADHD symptoms. They said yes, I have them, but not enough for a separate diagnosis of such. This is pretty much what they said at my #nvld assessment too, so I'm inclined to accept it. It's a shame my executive function issues can't be solved with medication though.

This is what bothers me about this society, the search for the perfect human. Disability? Who doesn't have some function that someone else has? He is intelligent, but... like a potentially superior person, but defective. This is ableism at it's most notorious, because it masks as empathy and science. Capitalism is more than an economic theory, it is a way of ranking the human and material world against some conception of the ideal, usually an economic valuing, but it extend to social values, because the two are linked. Disabled people are more likely to not get hired and more likely to become commodities for the for profit health care system. Taking this too personal am I? Well, since I have experienced what it is like being #NeuroDivergent -- yes

Almost 3 million kids in North America have the #learningdisability #NVLD. It affects #spatialvisualskills and has nothing to do with #speaking abilities.

It's day 4 of the reversion of #NVLD symptoms I had as a child. A respiratory virus brought it on. Room temperature, spoken words and smells are barely computing. Imagine taking several minutes to realize you're cold and shivering. Or asking everyone to repeat 3 times before understanding what they say. Or taking 20 seconds to comprehend the smell of burning popcorn. The neuropathway(s) are damaged that process these senses. This situation has me feeling scared and angry.

Diagnosis Time! It's been a tough weekend and this has been surprisingly emotional for me.
I do have #ADD (a.k.a #adhd inattentive for you DSM purists). What I didn't expect at all was a second diagnosis.
I have #nvld (nonverbal learning disorder). It's not common, but it's responsible for my weaknesses with spatial and visual functioning. I'm learning how much those struggles affect ... everything.
Next steps: Meds referral, processing thoughts + emotions, therapy support. #mentalhealth

CW: What an autistic meltdown feels like to me
I used to think they were just panic attacks, but panic attacks are based on fear, you sweat and have heart palpitations, that isn't how I experience these attacks. I sometimes cry, but usually do not, it is mostly internal. I have #NVLD also, I remember being kept in during recess as a kid, being forced to do math, crying, unable to calculate and in an internal meltdown. I recognise this memory now, as an adult, for what it was.

@PeteLittle1970 @IzabelaKaramia @obrerx Greater mathematical ability, or indeed any mathematical ability, would have helped me a lot, but alas I my mind is built for metaphors because of #NVLD and a poet-philosopher type, who spends most of his time online, is not one who is built for success in todays world. Sheldon Cooper I am not. I actually love maths in concept, I just can't calculate for crap.

@mmedada I’m 34 and I’ve been seeing a therapist for about 4 years now. I started seeing him for anxiety and depression, but within a year I started to realize that I might be living with undiagnosed #ADHD or #NVLD (or both). I asked about getting an assessment, but my therapist felt there wasn’t a real benefit to it — he worked with my physician to get me a prescription to help me treat the symptoms, and that’s been a huge help.

@bjornlarssen OH MOOD
I’m #NVLD. We are known for being hyperverbal. Seems helpful, but yes and no? I did win writing awards in school, but the amount of effort that went into it was apparently not normal.
I remember my freshman composition professor in college reacting with stunned disbelief when he said a paper I’d written for a very challenging assignment was excellent, and I responded by saying that it had taken me around 100 hours to write. I’d calculated. Except he didn’t seem to disbelieve me, he just seemed to be wondering how that was possible. He didn’t treat it like it was good, or fine as long as the resulting writing was good. He didn’t even try to explain it away as a different problem like time management, as if there would have been any assignment to turn in if I hadn’t had a painfully tight grip on my time management. That really stuck with me. No one had ever believed me before, and acted like it was still a problem if the result was good writing.
It is a problem, and continues to be a problem even with all the ways I’ve learned to work around it. There’s a limit to how much I can afford to manage it without just having to shut myself up unless I have an undetermined amount of time that adds up to enough. Even in the much less polished efforts of a post, that’s always a factor. If I run out of focus or time or energy before I have something I want to post, that may be the end of it. It’s pretty frustrating sometimes.
I know I could cut this down and rework it to be more directly on topic. In fact, I already have several times. I’m done inside and running short on time anyway, regardless of whether the post is as clear and direct as I’d like.
In conclusion, I feel you. Me too.
