My elderly grandmother is having increasing difficulty forming words and speaking. I made her a communication device.
It's 4 double-sided sheets, laminated, containing 8 groupings of Grandma's most common requests. When she is unable to talk, she can point to her directive in order to communicate her needs to her caregivers.
Alternately, she can plan ahead using a whiteboard marker. 🌸

There is something weird appeasing and calming about suddenly feeling non-verbal (some people refer to it as verbal shutdown).
Everything is so quiet and calm. My head slows down quite a lot as well, probably because I'm depressed and shutting down, but in a strange way, what is supposed to be a negative symptoms actually fills like my brain slowly resetting itself back to a safe state. It's empty, but I enjoy the stillness of it, it's calm. :bunhdcomfy:

Reading #SherlockHolmes and finding I relate to this quote, in my own kind of way, in terms of experiencing #nonverbal episodes and being connected to a number of people who tend to not really understand what is happening and become upset at my unwillingness to communicate with them.

My phone has an awesome text to speech feature, so as a non-verbal person I can still make and receive phone calls.
Once it is running, it's great. But there is a 20 to 35 second pause while it shows up in my end so I can type and then I can't copy and paste, so I've got to quickly type, too short like "hi" the other end doesn't get it, too long I'm making typos or too slow and they hang up.
I really wish there was a way to get this sorted

The first run of the #CommCards are in!
I'm beyond excited to have the physical version available at last. There are some small issues with them (which I mentioned recently) but they'll be fixed for next time.
These initial ten are going to locals, but future runs will be on a grander scale. They'll be in the neighborhood of $30 with no alterations, and around $40 for customizations/extras.
