  1. Moxxy becomes expressive

After a year-long hiatus, I'm back to working on the #Moxxy user interface. This time, I've added an onboarding process for new users and redesigned the home screen, which is now cleaner and offers more features.

  3. #moxxy mockup update:
After some feedback from @papatutuwawa , I corrected the previous design (media sending and emoji/stickers/gif).
It was previously a bottom sheet component with a scrim in the background. The scrim has been removed and the text field is now on top, which makes sending emojis etc. less separated from the conversation.

I'll try to do a full blog post at some point but I need to automate my blog first…

  4. #moxxy mockup update:
    1. when you press the '+' button in the text field, a bottom sheet appears allowing you to send easily your latest pictures, or another type of attachment.
    2. when you press the emoji button, a bottom sheet appears with tabs for emoji, sticker or gif selection. For the sticker tab, you can select your sticker pack quickly on the left side or even add a new pack

  5. #moxxy mockup update:
    1. added design for message bubbles when you send a video, a file, or your location (I'd like to make location sharing prettier by integrating a map but maybe it's hard to do? @papatutuwawa )
    2. added context menus for the header buttons in chat screen (thinking about removing the lock icon to have both audio and video call available in 1 click)

  6. Moxxy UI: May 2024 progress report

This month I worked on the Chat screen. Feel free to send me some feedback, especially about the blur filter because I feel like I need an outside perspective on the subject!

  7. I have been experimenting with allowing the creation of conversation groups (similar to what Gajim has) in #Moxxy. Nothing final, just trying things out 😄
  8. Second blog post on the #moxxy UI! Unfortunately I've had a very busy month and don't have much new to report. Hopefully I'll have more time in May to work on new screens. #xmpp #penpot #ui

  9. First blog post about the work I've done so far on the #moxxy UI! I'd like to do one every month if possible, like Thunderbird does with K-9 Mail. Please feel free to send me feedback! #xmpp

  10. I have created a blog to share my work on the #Moxxy UI and probably some drawings and music!
It's a static website I wrote in HTML/CSS (no JS), I tried to keep it very light as my goal was to reduce its carbon footprint as much as possible (I'll write a blog post about that later)
I'm not sure I'll use it much but at least it exists :^)

  11. A small UI update for #Moxxy. The work is not done yet but I wanted to show how the new UI will look like "in action".
  12. Small #Moxxy update: @ailyaut created a PR with a new design for Moxxy that, in my opinion, looks amazing! If you're interested in how Moxxy will look in the future, you can find the (initial) PR here: https://codeberg.org/moxxy/design/pulls/1
  13. My #xmpp client #Moxxy 's newest feature is viewing media in app and actually allowing you to share the media files (and text messages) with other apps.
  14. I just recorded a small demo of my new voice message recording UI in #Moxxy. Also shows a tiny bit of my migration to Flutter's Material 3 UI.
  15. I've just tagged version 0.5.0 of my #xmpp client #Moxxy! The last few fixes were not as pleasant as I wanted, but I think it should work.

Breaking change: I changed the app signing keys to a keypair that is stored on my YubiKey. So the update will require you to uninstall and reinstall, meaning that you will lose your Moxxy data.

  16. The GSoC contributor for #Moxxy has implemented joining #XMPP groupchats in the UI! In the first test of his code, I was able to join a groupchat and receive messages. The UI is not yet adapted to support groupchat messages (and sending is currently broken), but this is a huge step already!
  17. Yesterday I released version 0.4.2 of my XMPP client #Moxxy. This version brings many improvements under the hood and some that are more visible, like a "notes" chat, improved reactions display, and so on.

  18. I'd like to start contributing to but it's so fragmented and uses stuff I can't even READ. And I'm pretty well versed in

  19. I just discovered , a app for . Very interesting and close to what I want to do

  20. @ErcanErdemArdal The "official" list is here: xmpp.org/software/clients/
Which one is nicer is a matter of taste, really.

For Android, #Conversations is the lightweight, solid, well-established, stable, no-surprise client. It has various forks for more fancy features.
#moxxy is a new player that looks promising.
#movim is a web client, but works as a progressive web app, so both Android and iOS support should be nice.
There are others that I haven't tested and that you might like better!
