No es el artículo más profundo y extenso, pero me sirve para recomendar Penpot, otro exponente del código abierto muy útil a la hora de diseñar interfaces de usuario para webs y aplicaciones.

No solamente podemos recurrir a él gratuitamente (aunque existen planes de pago con algunos extras) sino que, para aumentar la seguridad y privacidad de nuestros trabajos, podemos autoalojarlo sin ningún problema. Y por eso nunca entenderé que las empresas privadas sigan apostando por software privativo que genera mayor dependencia de un producto ajeno.

Jeudi dernier, j'ai eu le plaisir de co-organiser notre premier Meetup France en tant que Penpot Ambassador !

Un grand merci à toutes celles et ceux qui y ont participé, ainsi qu'à l'équipe de @penpot et aux speakers @diacritica et Aurélien Grimaud !

On a parlé de Penpot 3.0, de serveur MCP, de plugins et d'agentique, et aussi de la montée des contributions de la communauté, c'est ça la force d'un projet #opensource !

I've installed @penpot locally!

I'm absolutely proud of myself for doing so successfully 😎

And I'm also really pleased with the front-end approach it has! I'm migrating/adapting my WordPress Block Themes designs from Figma as a way to get familiar with the UI, and I'm surprised so far with how much these two systems match. I'm really excited as I've been mulling over switching for a long time! 🙌

The "O" is a custom font so I assume there's probably a bug around this. A solution would be to convert the text to curves ... if this feature was actually available in penpot, which is not 🙃
(as much as I try to like the tool I have become very frustrated about penpot)

Just spent a couple hours trying to make a wireframe design in Penpot.

I like it a lot, but it does have some rough edges and I encountered at least 1 missing feature that seems like it would be table stakes for a design tool based on implementing CSS.

I’m going to keep an eye on it and see what I can do to contribute. We desperately need an open source tool like this.

I’ve discovered that I’m still generally the fastest at working in @Sketch for visual design.

I believe it’s due to the thoughtful UI/UX lending itself to a low-friction workflow, but also just how optimized and fast it actually is as a fully native macOS app can’t be undersold.

As much as I am skeptical of Canva ownership longterm, the new Affinity Studio is quite solid even with a free account. I have hope they won't enshittify or force you to train AI.

As an Affinity v2 user it hasn't taken long for me to feel at home in Studio. Rolling an entire design suite into 1 app is impressive and makes a lot of sense.

I also use Sketch, Figma, Penpot, Procreate, and Pixelmator Pro (hope Apple doesn't ruin) depending on the task for my anti-Adobe workflow.

@Tutanota and here I was happily emailing people on #Thunderbird and making designs on #Penpot and #Inkscape to share via #XMPP, at which point I remembered to catch up on discussions on #Loomio, and got roped into drafting a manifesto on #Cryptpad, all while blissfully unaware of the chaos going on until I opened #Newsflash and read about it all on the #RSS feeds that I synchronise via #NextCloud, at which point I decided to head over to talk about it with the world thanks to #ActivityPub!

I am just looking into #DesignSystems and there is the great #OpenSource design tool #penpot and there is the great #OpenSource design system #patternfly but unfortunally the latter only provides files for the #proprietary tool #sketch.

There are SVG files available to use them in any tool, but it is very hard for me as a non-designer to get them properly into penpot. Did anybody?

For @AntennaPod I'm working on mock-ups that will demonstrate how Multiple Queues might work – a much-requested feature. First time I'm recreating pretty much the whole app from scratch in a design app.

It's crazy how many screens you need to update & create to prototype such relatively simple concept!

Well, this sure looks like VC to me.

Folks investing $8M are going to want a billion-dollar exit. So who’s that exit going to be to (Adobe’s already full, is Google hungry for a design tool?) Or do they plan on going public?
