  1. The molecular motors that power bacteria's flagella are incredible. I had heard of these before, but the research is more advanced than it was when I was in grad school. They can image the individual subunits of the molecular motor with a cryoTEM and extract a 3D model of the motor. It's like a nanoscale electrical stepper motor. Amazing!

I really enjoyed this Smarter Everyday video about it youtube.com/watch?v=VPSm9gJkPx

  2. #SFUPhysics researchers have created a protein-based motor, but how does it work? Chapin Korosec and Nancy Forde explain "the Lawnmower" on #CBC Vancouver.

  3. A collaboration led by #SFUPhysics researchers Chapin Korosec and Nancy Forde has created the first synthetic protein-based motor that moves like a Roomba and uses biological reactions to fuel itself. Their work adds to our understanding how molecular motors work in nature, and how they might be used in the future for medical applications.

When asked about the advantages of running a joint lab, Jordan’s response was:
“More people, more fun, better science. I think that's what it really comes down to.”
