  1. #photo of the Cigar #galaxy taken last night with my #vaonis #telescope, right next to it is Bode's Galaxy. I should have recentered the image so both were better framed.

  6. Lightspeed is too slow. We'll have to go right to ludicrous speed.

2 million miles per hour (3.21 million kilometers per hour).
The superheated gas from this galaxy, Messier 82 (M82), flows from a region of intense stellar activity at the galaxy's heart. M82 is located around 12 million light-years away from us in the northern constellation Ursa Major and classified as a "starburst galaxy" because it is forming stars 10 times as rapidly as the Milky Way does.

  11. #M81 and #M82 - A lucky shot, to be honest. I couldn't aim very well with the old ball head, and I was very surprised when I saw the two galaxies in the finished image.

    Total exposure time approx. 1.5 hours with 210 mm/f3.5 on Pentax K30 & #barndoortracker.

  17. I was "developing" a shot of #M81 and #M82 when I started to get side-tracked and got curious about those nifty #Siril scripts. Notably, the #Galaxy Annotation script. And oh boy, is it marvelous.

Here is a picture of M81 and M82, and _a lot_ of other stuff ... mostly blotches, but still... those are some exceptionally old photons!

Question; is this really what we are seeing here?

Warning: _LARGE_ (as in 9k Pixels in height) picture.
