  1. "The Annihilation of Fish," a romantic comedy starring the late James Earl Jones and Lynn Redgrave, was shot in 1999 but never distributed, thanks to a negative review from @Variety, followed by the bankruptcy of the producer. Now, a newly restored version has been released in select U.S. theaters. Variety's J. Kim Murphy (not the original reviewer) spoke to director Charles Burnett about how he feels about the movie's tortuous path to the big screen, working with Redgrave, Jones and Margot Kidder, and what he's learned about making films.

  2. I haven’t laughed out loud in a movie in years!

Some of the “comedic” set pieces are a drag (too many food fights) but the cultural satire is *STILL* up-to-the-minute and relevant!

It’s a silly movie; what makes it stand out is:

#RitaTushingham & #LynnRedgrave , in the midst of all this silliness, really invest in Brenda & Yvonne’s friendship. As a viewer, you really believe that Brenda would go to these ridiculous lengths for her friend!
They couldn’t sell that ending if we didn’t really believe in their friendship, and it’s their dramatic backgrounds that grounds it.

    • The cultural satire: music industry, art world, media, even reality tv gets a poke!
Plus other references that went over my head!

    • A time capsule of 60s London, including incredible over-the-top fashions!

  3. … and now it’s time for #RitaTushingham in #SmashingTime !

I’m surprised by the caricature of her in the opening credits! It would have hurt my feelings!
The artist *did* capture #LynnRedgrave , though!

  4. The Turn of the Screw, a 1974 Dan Curtis-directed TV-movie adaptation, of the famous Henry James ghost story. A sexually repressed governess sees ghosts, or does she? Inferior to the 1962 movie The Innocents but fairly OK low-key gothic horror.
