  1. Building from the 50s-60s in #Luino, Italy.
Although built in a cheap manner, I still think the #facade is vaguely interesting and possesses a certain dignity. It is vertically divided into base, middle, and top part, echoing principles of classical #architecture. The coloured bands in the middle add a secondary vertical element, perhaps reminiscent of columns.
Like many contemporary buildings, also this structure is essentially a simple box, but the façade prevents it from appearing bland.

  2. #Luino 🇮🇹 station and yard are home to some - long withdrawn - pieces of railway history. Pictured here are a rake of former Swiss “lightweight” carriages, which terminated their career with “Ferrovie Nord Milano”, and an #FS class E.428 #quattroventotto electric from the 1930s.

  6. Without a proper train station bar (☕️🍺🍷) a train station in Italy wouldn’t be a train station in Italy. Also in this respect #Luino 🇮🇹 doesn’t disappoint us. On top of that, the place retains a lot of charm from a long gone era. 👏

  7. At #Luino 🇮🇹 station the current in the catenary changes from 15 kV AC to 3 kV DC. In the past this required a locomotive change (🇨🇭➡️ 🇮🇹 and v.v.). Modern multi-current locos - like the SBB class 193 #Vectron - just pass with lowered pantographs before continuing their journey.

  8. A particularly scenic yet not very busy railway line along the southern shore of #LagoMaggiore, from #Cadenazzo🇨🇭 near #Bellinzona to #Luino 🇮🇹: single track with an S-Bahn type passenger service every other hour (plus quite some freight). Pictures taken earlier this afternoon.
