Linux App Release Roundup: May 2025
May saw another sizeable set of Linux app updates, including a big update to system monitor tool Mission Centre and long-awaited version bump to system cleaner BleachBit. We also got new versions of web browsers Mozilla Firefox and Vivaldi; the NordVPN Linux app gained a GUI; and more — but they weren’t the only releases of note. That’s why I do these Linux app release roundups: I like to highlight app updates that didn’t warrant a headline of their own, but are still worth knowing about. As always, if you hear about a notable app update I haven’t covered, tips :sys_more_orange:

Linux App Release Roundup (April 2025)
April brought a solid set of software updates to an assortment of different apps. In this post, I run through recent releases that didn’t get the “whole article” treatment on this blog. Sometimes, it’s a challenge to cover everything I want to (especially in an Ubuntu release month, as April was). It also relies on me knowing a new release is out, and in a timely fashion. I track as much as I can, as best as I can. But it’s easy for things to pass under my radar (which is why the new tips you send me through the :sys_more_orange:

Loved the segment by @UnarmedOracle in this week’s CheckPoint about Microsoft WHAMM! and their Quake 2 simulacrum.

Especially loved the finishing remarks:
“I love being in a coalition! It’s good to see a vigorous defense of those things. It’s miserable to need one.” -

Linux App Release Roundup (March 2025)
March was another stellar month for Linux software updates, with big improvements to essential privacy tools like KeePassXC, creative apps such as Shotcut and DigiKam, and many more — updates that didn’t warrant dedicated articles on this blog. Why? Well, sometimes it’s an update making small changes hat it’s hard to say much1 about. Other times I’m just deathly late to hearing about it (which is why new tips via the contact form are super appreciated – you help me catch the things I miss). For those of us on fixed-release Linux distributions like Ubuntu, even small app updates can :sys_more_orange:

Linux App Release Roundup (Feb 2025)
February was a bumper month for Linux app updates, bringing new releases of Mozilla Firefox, LibreOffice, ONLYOFFICE and more — as well as a slew of smaller app updates that didn’t get a full-length article on this blog. Rather than skip over them entirely I thought I’d resurrect my Linux Release Roundup thread1 to provide a monthly (perhaps twice-monthly, if there’s a lot) run-through of some of them. After all, for those of us on fixed-release Linux distribution like Ubuntu may find one of these smaller updates fixes a flaw or fleshes out a feature to make it worth upgrading :sys_more_orange:

Hey, @Graham_LRR, I have a question for @Gibb after today's @LRRMTG stream...
If you're a puppet, and you're streaming now, does that make you a Ptuber?
I will accept an answer now, or during the next installment of 'Gibb Answers Your Toots'.

Watched the @LRRMTG PPR for Modern Horizons 3, and it looks like an interesting format. A few recent sets have been mostly ruined by the bonus sheets being way more powerful than the rest of the set, but a whole set of high power nonsense looks a lot more fun to play.
I normally skip all premium priced sets, and I’m still not getting any packs of MH3, but I am going to do the prerelease next weekend. (My LGS has it at $66 CAD, so a lot less than some stores are charging).

I've been talking with some folks about the wonderful Paranoia #TTRPG and I remembered one of my all time favorite playthroughs:
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjqXLBirx76EnlRXm4DDrWEYSB3uS9YCA&si=HBdv5ufq5UIMHzhg
I'm surprised I haven't found a reason to recommend it before now. All of #LRR 's Dice Friends series are awesome. I started making a list to recommend and realized it would be basically all of them.

So I’m posting this on here as well due to a large part of us being LRR fans. Alex is an extremely talented artist for both SFW and NSFW commissions as well as the creator for the comics Purifier and Spaceshipping which you can find out there. In instances like this if you don’t want a commission that’s ok, word of mouth is a powerful marketing tool that costs you nothing. #loadingreadyrun #lrr #artist
