#Cloud backup tools have made us lazy about #datasecurity. We just set it on Auto and forget that it exists. We confuse #synchronization (instant updates) with #backup (historical preservation). While the cloud is seamless, it lacks the true ownership of a #localserver—even if setting one up feels archaic and complicated.

I just stumbled upon another local instance similar to our own, right "next door" in the #SanJuanIslands called https://sanjuans.life. Hello over there @jeff, @LeeOnOrcas, et al.! In addition to supporting my #LocalServer, I've also setup a monthly #CoffeeDonation to the #Mastodon project itself.
