Well now. When I do science, I learn things.

The posts I made last night? I got link previews on the ones without content warnings. But if I used a content warning, no link preview.

Most of my posts with links also have content warnings, because, hello, I'm a sex blogger. So I have "felt" like link previews were inconsistent and mostly broken.

So: is this a bug, or an undocumented working-as-intended feature?

@feditips any idea why the #linkpreview is adding a bit to the #url after the slash, thus breaking it? Like this "https://www.notechforapartheid.com/notechforapartheid.com" when the url in the post doesn't contain anything after the slash?

Has anyone had issues with #twitter #x not fetching twitter:image meta tags for link/card #previews recently? They've stopped working on one of my sites but I haven't changed anything my end.

Last time we had this trouble it turned out to be some really weird low level networking setting!

We have a bit of a challenge in that our post scheduling tool doesn't support Alt Text so a couple of times a day I have to visit all the posts with images and manually add Alt Text afterwards.

There's a problem in Mastodon with certain link preview images in WebP of AVIF (https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/14983) so for some sources we need to put images in manually.

A few things I’ve learnt since joining Mastodon World :mastodonworld:

✳️ Putting a link as the last item in a toot appears to enable a preview of it to appear

✳️ Always adding Alt Text to images is appreciated by those who use screen readers

✳️ Capitalising each word in a hashtag makes it easier to read for both people and screen readers

✳️ Listing hashtags after the toot rather than embedding them within makes it easier to read

Signal now enables Link previews. I'm not sure I'm happy with this idea.
Not even days ago there was a detailed article how bad link previews are for privacy. Of course right now the previews are quite limited, but I'm sure they'll open them up soon.
