  1. Survivors 2070 Part Two: Life Inside Halo Arc

    Settling Into Orbit

Halo Arc never stopped moving. It circled Earth every ninety minutes. The residents learned to live with constant sunrise and sunset through the observation windows. They worked, slept, and grew food in a rotating schedule.

Hydroponic bays stretched across the inner rings. Rows of green vegetables lined transparent channels. AI monitored pH levels, moisture, and growth rates. The replicators handled protein blocks, yeast-based nutrients, and an experimental fish culture.

Marcus inspected a malfunctioning pump with two engineers.

“We have twenty hours before the lettuce batch fails,” he said.

Engineer Sato frowned. “We can reroute the water feed. The tubing needs welding.”

“Print it,” Marcus said. “Send the specs to Fabricator Three.”

3D printers have evolved beyond anything from the early century. They used recycled materials, vacuum formed alloys, and programmable carbon. The team could replace almost anything except the station’s largest structural sections.

    Social Life

The residents rotated through education modules. Children learned physics, agriculture, and languages. Adults worked six-hour shifts. Every person had duties. Trust kept the station alive.

During a community meeting, a teacher, Lila Nakamura, raised a concern.

“The children are asking about the world below. They see the frozen clouds and want answers.”

Alina nodded. “Tell them the truth. Earth is cold but not gone. We watch and wait. When temperatures return, we return.”

A young father stood. “Do we know when that will be?”

“No,” Alina said. “But we prepare every day.”

    Problems Appear

The first major issue came with the oxygen garden. A fungal infection spread through the moss beds. The AI flagged it within minutes. Engineers isolated the bay and began sterilizing.

    Marcus briefed the command team.

“If we lose two more beds, we drop below safe oxygen levels.”

Colonel Rajan asked, “Do we have a backup?”

“We can grow new cultures, but it takes time.”

“Do it,” she said. “No delays.”

The crew worked through the night. Replicators printed sterilized trays. Biologists introduced new moss samples. By morning, the infection was gone.

  2. Employee of a client calls me, absolutely furious. She has just arrived at the office and her laptop will not connect to the wifi. Clearly this network is broken. I suggest a couple of tests, like checking whether the network shows up (it does not) and trying a cable connection (nothing happens). So I timidly suggest checking whether there is actually power in the office, since there is construction going on. Boom. No power. She then asks me where the switch is to turn it back on. I have no idea, of course. Their electrical system is not exactly my responsibility. She snaps at me, asks why they even pay me, and hangs up with enough force that I can almost feel it.

I grin, although slightly annoyed. Luckily the people who work with her are nothing like that.

Half an hour later she calls again, apologizing deeply for how she treated me. She tells me she had a very rough night and even shares the details. Nearly thirty minutes on the phone, venting. Out of respect I will not retell anything, but she really should have stayed home today. She deserved it. She just did not want to tell her managers because she feared they would think she only wanted a longer weekend after yesterday’s holiday.

But her managers are not fools, and they immediately sent her home to rest and take care of her loved ones.

Too often honest people like her pay the price for those who act sly or arrogant. It is not fair, but the smart ones can tell the difference. Not always, but quite often.

  3. #LifeSupport has been tested using a full-scale cabin inhabited by multiple people. A full demonstration of the elevator using the #Axiom #EVA suits, which will be used during the #Artemis missions, has also been completed. And landing leg testing, which included the dropping of a full-scale article at flight energies onto simulated lunar regolith. Another addition is a #docking system, which will enable ships to dock with each other in #orbit nasaspaceflight.com/2025/11/st
