  2. Louise Michel is free

Our rescue ship Louise Michel is free again after 20-days in detention.

A new crew has arrived and is now training for our upcoming operations.

Ships like the Louise Michel exist because Europe fails in its obligations to protect human rights.

With the newly implemented rules for CEAS (Common European asylum system), the EU has again decided to go against humanity and basic human rights. These new rules have faster deportation procedures, stricter border controls, and prison-like transfer detention centers. They must be resisted.

We stand up for human rights for all, advocating for freedom of movement, and standing in solidarity people seeking together.

    Together, we are stronger.

  8. #Canada #Backcountry types: what’s you go-to navigation option for backcountry/FSR navigation?

Currently I’m using Avenza with purchased BC Backroads Mapbooks maps installed and it works pretty well, although the maps aren’t stitched together and so I often find myself having to switch from one map to the next, on the fly. I see Backroads has their own app now, which looks promising but it’s subscription-based, which I hate.

  12. US Forest Service (Rescue/Mt. Shasta)

    "...U.S. Forest Service - Shasta-Trinity National Forest
    13h ·
**Climbing Rescue on Mount Shasta – Avalanche Gulch**
On Sunday afternoon, U.S. Forest Service Service Climbing Rangers responded to a rescue involving a 31-year-old female climber who suffered a serious fall while ascending the Left of Heart variation of the Avalanche Gulch route on Mount Shasta.
The climber, part of a group of three novice climbers, fell approximately 1,500 vertical feet, from around 13,000 feet to approximately 11,500 feet, before coming to rest on the mountain.
At approximately 12:00 p.m., Lead Climbing Ranger Nick Meyers was notified by the Siskiyou County Sheriff Search and Rescue coordinator of the incident. Three U.S. Forest Service Climbing Rangers responded with assistance from the California Highway Patrol.
Due to cloud cover, the initial helicopter insertion was limited to 50/50 Flat. Climbing Ranger Falconer then ascended on foot to reach the patient, assisted by one member of the climbing party who had descended to help carry rescue equipment. A fourth climber, who happened to be in the area, also stopped to assist the injured climber and remained with the group throughout the rescue.
The patient was found alert, in good spirits, and suffering from a suspected fractured right ankle along with additional injuries consistent with the significant fall. After being stabilized and packaged in a SKED rescue litter, Climbing Rangers Falconer, Jordan, and MacArther, along with members of the climbing party, carefully lowered the patient to Lake Helen.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol helicopter safely extracted the patient from Lake Helen and transported her to Mercy Medical Center Mount Shasta for further medical care.
This incident serves as an important reminder that Mount Shasta is a high-altitude mountaineering environment, not a hike. Even experienced climbers can encounter rapidly changing weather, steep snow and ice, rockfall, and hazardous fall conditions..."

  13. Remote Sensing, Real Impact - Technology-Driven Conservation At The Jane Goodall Institute
(How the Jane Goodall Institute [JGI] is using satellite imagery and spatial technology to help people and animals thrive.)

“Dr. Jane Goodall’s groundbreaking research at Gombe National Park in Tanzania began in 1960, and transformed our understanding of chimpanzees and redefined the relationship between humans and animals. Dr. Goodall dedicated her life to conservation and community empowerment. Her recent passing marks the end of an extraordinary career in ethology and conservation science. Yet her legacy lives on powerfully through the Jane Goodall Institute [JGI] and the countless individuals and communities she inspired worldwide. Her pioneering work revealed that chimpanzees make and use tools, have complex social structures, and possess individual personalities; discoveries that fundamentally challenged our understanding of what it means to be human, for the better…
The institute's current work embodies Dr. Goodall's profound philosophy: that humanity can only reach its full potential "when our clever brains and our compassionate hearts are connected."
This principle guides every aspect of JGI's conservation science strategy, from analyzing satellite data to providing local communities with the tools they need to strengthen their environment. Dr. Goodall's vision that conservation must be rooted in compassion, scientific rigor, and respect for local communities continues to shape the institute's innovative approach to using technology for conservation action.
As time has gone on, geospatial technologies have become increasingly indispensable to this mission, enabling JGI to monitor forest health in real-time, map critical chimpanzee habitats and migration corridors, and measure the tangible impact of community-led conservation initiatives. But perhaps most importantly, these technologies help the communities understand that the lives of people, animals and their shared environment are all interconnected…”
