  1. Is anybody here using (or want to use) multi-temporal RGB composites based on #Sentinel-1 products? A new no-code app is in the making and looking for some testers…

  2. Via the U.S. Geological Survey, on Tuesday, a small debris flow was detected by several of Mount Rainier's lahar monitoring stations, likely the result of an outburst of water from the South Tahoma Glacier that grew into a debris flow, which isn't surprising given the current heat wave in WA.

  3. Via the AGU's Landslide blog, the Brienz, Switzerland landslide "is part of a much larger area of deep-seated gravitational slope deformation" and could soon slide into the town of 130 residents, which has been evacuated:

GeologyHub has a good explainer video on the situation in Graubünden canton in eastern Switzerland:

  4. Outstanding radar image of the #Shiveluch #volcano.
#Radar data is not affected by cloud cover or rain. It can be acquired day or night, and often penetrates snow down to bedrock, unlike optical data (e.g. #Sentinel2, #landsat ).
Acquired on April 17, it shows the immense collapse of the crater, and potentially a growing lava lobe.
Kudos to @RaphaelGrandin and Alina Shevchenko for their work in the area and Capella Space for providing the image.

  5. Perusing my photo archives some more, I forgot that during my 2017 Alaska reporting trip to Juneau, I had hiked on top of a recently deposited avalanche that had sent tons of snow and ice down from Mount Juneau toward the edge of town. (The avalanche fortunately missed homes off of Coleman Street.) Note the size of my local guide's dogs compared to the avalanche deposit.

  7. Looks like some minor #landslides were triggered by the M6.8 #TajikistanEarthquake yesterday, onto the frozen surface of #SarezLake, which itself is dammed by a massive earthquake-triggered landslide in 1911. Before-and-after imagery from Planet. This is ~50km from epicenter. Waiting on more extensive imagery but I don't see any major secondary #geohazards triggered by the quake.

  8. A brief #introduction: 👋 I'm Jonathan (often just Jonny).

I am a #geoscientist currently working at the Italian National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics. My research is in computational #geophysics, mostly using marine #seismic data to better understand marine #geohazards, complex #geology and other #earthscience problems. Most of my day I'm sitting in front of a computer coding in #Python.

I'm originally from the UK 🇬🇧 but currently live in Trieste, Italy 🇮🇹

  9. Hi! I'm a disaster researcher, TV & movie science consultant, field geophysicist , & freelance science communicator. I'm usually somewhere along the West Coast of North America.

I run #YouFoundARock & #RockCheck. I’m the admin of #MinCup, and give tasting notes on rocks sorted into Lick & Do Not Lick lists.

  10. One downside of migrating servers is that your posts disappear (at least mine did). So here's my #introduction! I am a #geomorphologist at #UCalgary, focusing on rapid geological changes in high altitude & high latitude environments. In other words, I study #geohazards and #Quaternary environmental change in #glacial and alpine environments. I use variety of tools incl #satellite remote sensing & field mapping to understand how Earth changes shape on timescales of a few seconds to millennia.

  11. Hello Mastodon, or is it Tootland? I'm so confused...I will just blunder on, confused as usual!

I'm Heidi Stenner, a #hazards geologist and Project Manager with #GeoHazards International (#GHI) a non-profit focused on working with lower-resourced global communities who are at high risk of natural hazards and climate change impacts.

    I have been an #earthquake #geologist and #paleoseismologist with USGS. Migrated into #scicomm #disasterprep. I'm most interested in #EQ #landslide #volcano #compound #concurrent #cascading #disasters and how to #mitigate #adapt #plan to reduce their impacts.
