  1. @janvlug @codo @dos The device/port might also matter...? The USB-C port of the #Librem14 has never worked for me for flashing a #Librem5 even with the original cable, so I use another PC for this.

  2. This is what the hinge on my #Librem14 by @purism looks like right now.

It just busted from normal use.

I did some research, and the issue seems common.

I purchased the laptop on 7/8/2023 and received it in October, 2023. I use it multiple times (nearly) daily. With just some napkin math, that's about 1.5k-2.5k monitor openings and closings before failure.

...I'm waiting for support to get back to me. (Week 2-3 of waiting.)

  3. @kdehairy @purism similar thing happened to me.

Fortunately, they sent a replacement battery. (I purchased the 3-year warranty.)

I read of one other person on Mastodon that had a similar issue. Perhaps it is more common.

At any rate, now the hinge on my #Librem14 is broken. I sent in a ticket about two weeks ago, before it totally busted. Now it's completely busted, and, as I wait for them to get back to me, I have a new past time of researching the faults of this laptop...

Not all companies are like this:
"At @purism #privacy isn’t a toggle buried deep within a settings menu; it’s the foundation of everything we build. Our devices—like the #Librem5 smartphone and #Librem14 laptop—run on free and #opensource software (#FOSS) , ensuring that users have full #transparency and #control over their data.

Unlike Meta, #Purism does not monetize personal information."

  5. Read this great update about the #pureos development in September 2024:

Many #Crimson packages start building again. Well done. I'm always reading these monthly updates with much interest.

You can totally optional support the development of PureOS by getting a subscription: shop.puri.sm/?s=pureos+subscri

#PureOS is totally free software for everyone, regardless of subscriptions, but subscriptions help the advancement.

  6. I have finally given op on my #librem14. Relentlessly disappointing from the initial wait to support forgetting to send it back to the battery being useless and it’s only working as a desktop to the network that drops every two minutes. Imma strip the memory and disk and dump it.”

  7. Only a few days after I wrote that, it completely fell apart. Also, I finished the keyboard off trying to fix problem with it, including the power button, and it's not supposed to be replaced without replacing the whole shell (it still isn't for the #Librem14 as far as I can tell; so much for repairability). So, yeah, I think I'll salvage the components that can be and take my business elsewhere.

  8. Hmmm... I think it's time to switch back to #Windows for my day job. I did #MacOS for three years (just so I could say I could and call BS on anyone who said it was better than Windows or #Linux), and managed to convince my boss to let me use #QubesOS for the past three years (on the #Purism #librem14 - what a POS).

I love #Qubes and will continue to use it for my personal daily driver, but trying to operate in my work environment from Linux, and especially Qubes, had been causing entirely too much friction. Windows is a dumpster fire, but at least it's the same dumpster fire as everyone else.
