  1. A friend runs a small consulting business in Australia that pays to use GitHub to host private repos and the associated services for their commercial projects. I had been banging the digital sovereignty drum and now they are asking me about alternatives to GitHub for commercial private repos and services. (Bozhe moi! This, I know from nothing.)

I would greatly appreciate suggestions for alternatives to GitHub for this use case. (Pretty please to the professional computer touchers among my mutuals.) Thanks!

EDIT - Many thanks to everyone for the boosts and suggestions. As a token of appreciation, here are some nicely constructed banana plugs:

  6. I'm joining the folk who #LeaveGitHub for alternative forges. I admit to mostly using it as an offsite backup service but I sometimes contribute. What are the viable new homes? I'm US based, long retired and a hobbyist, solo developer who doesn't mind paying reasonable fees for access.

    Does anyone have recommendations or warnings re #GitLab #BitBucket #Codeberg #Sourcehut ?

Is there a #fossil SCM forge out there?

  11. I've now moved another 31 repositories from GitHub to Codeberg since yesterday... I think I'm going to take a break. I have 144 repos total on GitHub; at least many of them are just forks of other projects, but this is still a lot to go through. 😹

  16. I know I'm late on getting some of my repos off GitHub, but at least I'm finally getting it done.

In the meantime, here's a little something for anyone else migrating to Codeberg: img.shields.io/badge/moved_to-

  21. Github Copilot has inserted #ads into PRs.

#GitHub backs down, kills #Copilot pull-request ads after backlash:

Seriously, you can't make this shit up!

Hey #Microsoft GitHub, how about inserting ads directly into my code...maybe as comments!? I've heard it increases the ROI! Numbers go up, you know!?

  26. Great move away from GitHub, as shared by @cass! 🥳

I read her post via my RSS feed and saw my post about switching to Bunny mentioned (thanks for linking my guide, Cassie)! If you're still using GitHub for your source codes or for hosting your free static site—definitely reconsider alternatives.

  31. @bagder @|all stop using platforms with such incentives.
i just noticed someone's auto-generated "my year on github" video. 🤦🏻‍♂️
seems like "too embarrassing" does not exist any more.
can we please try to work without all these instant gratification dopamine pumps?

Is there something you can recommend?
