A friend runs a small consulting business in Australia that pays to use GitHub to host private repos and the associated services for their commercial projects. I had been banging the digital sovereignty drum and now they are asking me about alternatives to GitHub for commercial private repos and services. (Bozhe moi! This, I know from nothing.)

I would greatly appreciate suggestions for alternatives to GitHub for this use case. (Pretty please to the professional computer touchers among my mutuals.) Thanks!

currently installing #linuxmint alongside Windows 11 on my daily driver laptop (finally)

As a Linux newbie I found verifying the ISO image to be the most confusing part. But I must say @linuxmint does provide excellent installation documentation so I never got completely lost ;)

Continuing the thread -

Moving relatively simple generic services such as file hosting, buckets etc. is somewhat easy.
A bigger challenge: to get away from the entire #Microsoft environment, the entire #Outlook+Office+Teams+::: package, and such integrated systems.
In #Denmark we are unfortunately very used to it- a dependency/addiction grown over years/decades, which will be harder to undo,

Interesting in more than one way:

ITK (#Aarhus Municipality's department for Innovation, Technology and Creativity, together with Culture and Citizen Services in Aarhus Municipality, are moving their #cloud hosting from #Azure to Hetzner.
In addition to making the necessary move from the #US to #Europe, this will "reduce cloud costs by as much as 2/3."

It is totally possible to pay for a hosted Nextcloud and not to give any Big5-company Money.
I use this since a few years and it works wonderfull.
You only have to find a service who gives you the right combination.
