  1. What is your Hebrew Question?

Two questions landed in my inbox recently and they are some version of the same thing I hear constantly. How do you read Hebrew without the dots? How do you figure out the dots and lines in the first place? That is where I am stuck

If you have ever felt that exact frustration, you are in very good company

The dots and lines have a name. They are called the Nikud, the Hebrew vowel system, & once you understand what they are actually doing, a huge amount of the confusion lifts. They are not random. They are not decoration. They are the key that tells you how a word sounds, & learning to work them and eventually beyond them is one of the most freeing moments in your whole Hebrew reading journey

Watch the video and then tell me honestly. Where are you most stuck with reading Hebrew right now? I read every single response & these questions often become my next lessons

  2. @notthatkaren
Ah, I can answer 2 of those questions.
The insects reeing in the background are cicadas and they can get insanely loud! I noticed them constantly in #MyIDIsGangnamBeauty
Yes, King Sejong invented the #hangul alphabet. Prior to its introduction in 1433, writing was done in the Chinese style. His lovely statue in Seoul is very eye-catching. The need to learn more culture has driven me to learn a lot of language over the last 6 months. #korean #kdrama #LangaugeLearning

  3. People who are learning another language: how many of you have changed the language of your phone to your target tongue? I did this a few months ago, and it's been enormously helpful for both passive and active #LangaugeLearning. Interesting to note that when I press like on someone's DM, they get the notification in the language of my phone, not theirs! #french #english #language

  4. ooh :blobcatsurprised: I just found out I can get the new #Memrise interface via their Early Access option (in Settings). Everything is shiny and new! :blobcat_banban: #LangaugeLearning #LanguageStudy #Languages

  5. Welp, my paid sub to #Duolingo finally ended today. Not resubscribing after their hatchet job on the site. Not being able to easily go back and retake lessons, or focus on just one topic at a time, has meant it's 'game over' for me

  6. A random #German phrase I came across today that made me chuckle:

Unsere Küche ist groß und hell!
    :blobcatscared:

It doesn't just sound negative but absolutely awful. But the translation is actually really positive....

Our kitchen is big and bright!

  7. Anyone else read books in other languages to help them learn more?

My hubby does & he thinks I’m ready to try reading a real book in Spanish.

It might take me a year, but going to try. Any recommendations for good books written in Spanish that don’t have crazy made up words (e.g., not looking for a Harry Potter type thing) that might be a good read for a novice Spanish speaker? #spanish #learningspanish #books #spanishbooks #LangaugeLearning
