It's a pity #jstor apparently has sunset its APIs (no idea how recently).

Come il #West è stato #fotografato
La #fotografia ferroviaria ha contribuito a vendere un'immagine "vuota" del West, escludendo attentamente dall'inquadratura le persone che già vi abitavano.

A reminder that when you connect to JSTOR, you are connecting to an entity that generates tens of billions a year and that killed Aaron Swartz. #jstor

Reposting this from the #jstor #Tumblr: https://www.tumblr.com/jstor/767875563714134016
Original Post: Black Periodicals: From the Great Migration through Black Power by Reveal Digital, is a transformative open access resource for librarians, faculty, and students engaging with Black history, social justice, and cultural studies.
Spanning over 75,000 pages of mid-20th-century periodicals, the collection amplifies the voices of Black Americans and their global counterparts. It features a wide range of materials, including women’s advocacy newsletters, labor union publications, and international periodicals from Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean. These resources illuminate connections between early 20th-century activism and the Civil Rights era and beyond.
Whether you're building a library collection, crafting a syllabus, or diving into research, this collection provides unparalleled access to the literature, politics, and culture that shaped a pivotal century.

CW: suicide, uspol
#AaronSwartz, brilliant 26-year-old Internet activist, co-creator of #Reddit and co-writer of the #RSS specification, committed #suicide twelve years ago yesterday.
In 2008 he helped defeat paywalled #PublicDomain case law; in 2012 #SOPA/ #PIPA; but after enduring 18 months of federal persecution for liberating public-domain articles from #JSTOR, he ended his own life.
If you feel hopeless, call 988.
If you supported bullying Aaron, may you burn in hell.

Just learned the #Constellate platform put together by Ithaka and #JSTOR for #TextMining is being sunsetted next year.
Apparently, #HathiTrust will also discontinue support of the HathiTrust Research Centre (its text mining platform).
I hope some of the data download features Constellate allowed (even for non-members) will continue... they're useful and important!
