Fijne bespreking van "The Deer and the Cauldron" (vert John Minford), de laatste serie van de legendarische kungfu-schrijver Jin Yong. Dit laatste verhaal is heel anders dan zijn eerdere meer rechttoe-rechtane kungfu-verhalen: de hoofdpersoon is niet rechtschapen, maar een bedrieger die zich overal in en weer uit weet te werken.

I read once that Chinese people learn their history not in school, but from #JinYong, and thought, "One billion people can't be wrong," so the next day I started reading LoCH. The project of working my way through Jin Yong's ouevre has been slowed by my needing to read everything *around* the history in the books, but this is just as I planned it.

Hi. I'm not sure when that original blog post was made, but book 3 of Jin Yong's Legends of the Condor Heroes was published earlier this year in England, with book 4 scheduled for early next year. Also, there's another website for translations of his novels, but I'm not sure if they're different translations or just a mirror copy of the Wuxia Society's. -
Well, well, well. It seems The Book Depository has A Heart Divided already listed. Let the waiting for Feb. 4th, 2021 begin!

While this is not the officially approved English translation of Jin Yong's Legends of the Condor Heroes, it still seems pretty good. They've already finished book 4 AND the next 2 series (12 books in total). I may give this a read after I read A Heart Divided when it comes out next year.

My wife is cackling with wild laughter because she just spoiled the ending of #LegendsOfTheCondorHeroes for me, but the English translation won't be out until early 2021.

The vile Cyclone Mei, one half of the treacherous duo Twice Foul Dark Wind, skilled in the Nine Yin Skeleton Claw, the Heartbreaker Palm, & the White Python Whip, which they learned when they stole the Nine Yin Manual from their master, Eastern Heretic Apothecary Huang on Peach Blossom Island.
This is why I like reading #JinYong: the setting, the world he created, & the way he named things.

My 2018 #reading consisted mostly of nonfiction, & only 2 works of fiction (but 1 was #HistoricalFiction). The topics were mostly about life in the #MiddleAges, #Macau, & #bread. But I did read a #JinYong novel, a novel about the #Dutch in #Taiwan, & a book about #rum. As always I hope to read more next year.
I'm #CurrentlyReading #SoloAStarWarsStory by Mur Lafferty.
