I don't usually follow news about which movies and series are coming up. (Unless it's about #StarWars.) So, it's purely coincidence that I am #nowReading " #TheOdyssey " just before a new movie adaptation of the story by #ChristopherNolan is about to be released.
Specifically, the #book I'm reading is "The Odyssey:
Rendered into English prose for the use of those who cannot read the original" translated by Samuel Butler, published in about 1921. -
This zine contains an interview with an activist in Myanmar before and during the coup who describes life resisting the temporary representative democratic government and the dictatorship that has followed it. The interviewee has moved to Mae Sot, Thailand but had organized in Burma for 20 years previously.

I’d never encountered this short work by Perec before, but it’s suffused with his typical playfulness and comic flair, while also being a prescient social commentary on the lowliness of the office worker and corporate control. Has a great foreword by Perec’s greatest translator and biographer, David Bellos.

I just finished reading the second book in the Nevermoor series, “The Calling of Morrigan Crow”. I enjoyed it just as much as the first one. Author Jessica Townsend has created a unique and imaginative magical universe full of quirky and interesting young characters, and sets a great story there. I can’t say much about plot here without spoiling the first book in the series. But I’m looking forward to the next one.

Ich lese gerade den Roman #PlanetDerAffen von #PierreBoulle, 1963. Liest sich zwar flüssig aber literarisch anspruchslos. Er ist sehr mit der Neuigkeit beschäftigt, dass Affen sich wie Menschen verhalten aber kaum mit Reflexion oder Kritik an diesem Verhalten. Die Beziehungen der Charaktere sind flach und teils sexistisch. Lediglich zu Zira entwickelt sich eine tiefere Beziehung. Die Unterschiede zu den Filmen sind sicher ganz interessant, wenn man Fan der Reihe ist. #kbooks #nowreading #ichlese

This was SO good. The stories are still rattling around in my head.
I think it'd have resonance even for someone without connections to that environment & society. I grew up in #Indonesia and my father (not openly until much later) was bi and had homosexual relationships while (and after) we lived there (wasn't someone asking about #familySecrets recently? Well there you go).
Anyway. Highly, highly recommend.
