  1. After over 2 years outside in the Texas snow/rain/heat I'm calling my trash-can pickup sensor a success! No moisture ingress!

It's an #Insteon door sensor, replacing the magnetic presence sensor with a tilt sensor, hot-glued in a cheap project box. All attached to my cans.

The idea was to notify me when the trash/recycling has been picked up each week, so I know when to bring the cans in.

  2. Finally removed the last #Insteon device from my home today. Insteon was a great home automation system for its time, and worked reliably for me for many years, controlled by my own hand-rolled Perl scripts. (That alone should tell you how long I've been using it.😆)

    Now I'm 100% #HomeKit native.

  3. Wife isn't home this evening so setting off alarms is only annoying myself. Quick and dirty #HomeAutomation trigger using an #Insteon I/O Linc and #VisualBasic.

  4. I’ve been really impressed with #homebridge server currently handling about 30 devices (lights, cameras, doors). More to come as I unplug the final #insteon devices. #Homebridge is running on a #raspberrypi tucked away in the media cupboard - updates are pretty seamless, and no issues for the last 90 days or so. Solid engineering.

Any other #homeautomation nerds out there?

  5. @smarthomejunkie @balloob As someone with a primarily #ZWave and #Insteon (I know, I know) network, I'm genuinely interested in what it means. I see from home-assistant.io/skyconnect/ that it supports #Zigbee; but we already have that, right? I know that #Thread exists, but I'm confused on how it relates to #Matter and is anybody actually making #Thread / #Matter switches, thermostats, etc? I don't see it mentioned when I look for such things. Thank you!

Il caso Insteon dimostra la caducità degli oggetti IoT, e che i consumatori non possono più stare zitti
