@GertrudeZane
Ohhh. The thought of her beautiful mama... Zaz's mama was also a beautiful tabby. But no long flowing fur, just short, curly.
I gave away my last first edition of Vapour Trails today (apart from my own dedicated signed copy). Now we wait for the shipment of the new edition. She was an avid #LouisePenny fan, who came to buy a box from Steven. She has bought other pieces from him in the past. I know she'll love it.

I would not call any of the Inspector Gamache books "cozy". They plumb the depths of humanity in a way that leaves you wondering how we've survived as a species. Yet I love them all.

The 19th book of the Chief Inspector Gamache Series, The Grey Wolf, doesn't come out until October 29th, 2024!
I'm going to have a hard time waiting for that one especially since I've run out Jim Butcher's Dresden Files books!

For some reason, this frame reminded me of "Three Pines" - the #LouisePenny town of the #InspectorGamache series - except the fact that this is much further down South than the imaginary town. #photography #landscape #yellowstone

#ThreePines - based on the #MurderMystery series by #LouisePenny, a surprisingly compassionate & ethical #InspectorGamache of the Canadian Surete visits the small village of Three Pines to solve a murder. He becomes enmeshed in the villager's lives as he battles police corruption. Casting for Gamache was excellent but only superficial attention is paid to the eclectic villagers & Three Pines itself. The choice to make them both seem more sinister than welcoming was frustrating. Amazon Prime

“I don’t know. I’m sorry. I need help. I was wrong.”
Best words to live by from #InspectorGamache. #LouisePenny #ThreePines

@CaroltheCrone I've been watching #ThreePines & I'm a fan of the #LouisePenny books (I just read #AWordOfCurosities).
Generally I think Three Pines is quite good although I have some minor quibbles. (The first two stories felt rushed although the last story didn't and I think has been the best one so far. I've also thought Peter & Clara's casting is too young, Jean Guy is cast too old and he should be speaking French only). However I realize that TV/movies are a very different medium than books and every adaptation of a book will have changes.
I really like #AlfredMolina as #InspectorGamache, he captures #Gamache 's compassion and thoughtfulness. I like the indigenous story arc (original to the show) as it is well written and acted.
Overall, I think it's a good adaptation for both those who've read the books and those who haven't. (My husband hasn't read the books and he is enjoying it as well.)

I saw episodes 5 & 6 of #ThreePines, the new #InspectorGamache series today. In my opinion, this is the best story adaptation so far. Unlike the first 2 stories, it did not feel rushed and was very faithful to the book. The characters were well cast and performed. We're really enjoying this show and especially #AlfredMolina .

@ProPublica very good. Going to watch the new episode of #ThreePines, the new #InspectorGamache series (Louise Penney #books). Shocked at the suspensions on Twitter but happy they are all already on Mastodon. #JoinMastodon

Overall, I think it's a very good adaptation and well worth the watch. Here's my review of the first two episodes (I'm a fan of the books). I would add that's the 2 part episodes are a bit rushed as they are doing an entire book & the new indigenous arc in reach episode (they should be 4 parts like some British drama.)Just saw the first 2 episodes of #ThreePines on #AmazoPrime.
Overall, I liked it and but quibbles were minor.What I liked:
-the casting and performance of #AlfredMolina as #InspectorGamache. He conveyed the thoughtfulness and caring of the character.
- the setting and the scenery of the Eastern townships of Quebec were very evocative
-the indigenous arc although not a part of the books was well done & integrated with the story. (In the books there is an indigenous mother protesting outside the SQ headquarters.)
- many of the casting choices were well done (Oliver & Gabriel), Isabelle (although not indigenous, it worked well)What I don't care for (all of which is minor quibbles)
- less French than I thought there should be, if memory serves me, Gamache and his wife speak French to each other, not English. It especially jarred with his deputy Jean-Guy who doesn't speak English & mistrusts English speakers
- other casting choices - the artist couple Clara & Peter are middle aged
-Ruth Zardo looks like a bag lady (although she is well played), I didn't picture her so unkemptOverall, I thought it was an excellent adaptation. My husband who hasn't read any of the books by #LouisePenny liked it.

@rauschma That's so true! And what a lovely video.
A duck even makes Ruth Zardo happy (a cantankerous character in the Three Pines book series), and if a duck can make her happy, a duck will make anyone happy. #LouisePenny #ThreePines #RuthZardo #InspectorGamache #RosaTheDuck

I'm looking forward with some trepidation to Amazon Prime's new #TvShow series #ThreePines starting to air in December #ThreePinesOnPrime. Although I usually watch #BritishDrama , I'm a big fan of #LouisePenny & I've read all her #InspectorGamache mysteries. Inspector Gamache is such an interesting character & it's nice to read a #mystery with a #Canadian setting. I hope it will be well written, a friend warned me about a previous adaptation. Bad #screenwriting can ruin a show even with good actors.) Apparently it's the same production company as The Crown and #AlfredMolina is the lead. (He's British so probably hopefully he'll do a convincing Quebecois accent.) The rest of the cast seem to be Canadian (English, French and indigenous - the only other cast member I recognize is #TantooCardinal. )
