TIL that while the US offers up to 240 days extension of immigrant visas during application processing, immigrants have to apply for extensions to their driver's licenses during that time because their only granted until their current visa expires. This means that in states like Texas, an immigrant must make repeated trips to the DMV during that 240-day extension in order to maintain their driving privileges, often required to get to and from work.
This system is absurd.
