I find the notion of retribution uncomfortable, even when it comes to people who've harmed me or others.
I want them not to be able to harm me/others anymore, but I don't want to see them come to harm purely for the sake of vengeance.
Similarly, I don't really understand the purpose of punishment as a factor in justice systems.
But I see a lot of comments expressing that retribution (for those who genuinely have done things that deserve it) is something others find desirable or necessary.
Here's an anonymous poll to find out where the entities of fedi stand on this.
In this case, retribution could be enacted personally or by the state.
I certainly understand the desire to enact personal retribution sometimes, far more so than making it a mechanism of state control, but equally see how tit-for-tat vigilantism could have catastrophic implications.
Excuse the combined final option for retribution minded folks - we apparently only have five choices on GlitchSoc Masto here!
